Hours: Part Time

Job Summary:

To ensure an efficient process for all Admit Day of Surgery and Same Day Services patients, by coordinating the necessary nursing assessments, documentation, pre-admission testing and other pertinent information required for each patient prior to their scheduled day of surgery/procedure.

Accountabilities:

Coordinate the preoperative assessment of the patients pre surgical/procedure episode of care.

Consistently assesses and modifies approach, communication and activities to reflect the needs of patients based on procedure/surgery, age, cultural diversity and developmental level.

Demonstrates understanding of the unique needs of the patients

Completes preadmission nursing assessment according to unit standards.

Provides teaching based on assessment and established protocols.

Performs accurate and timely documentation consistent with departmental policies

Consistently meets department productivity standards, while performing all duties.

Ensures completion/receipt of required preadmission items prior to the day of surgery/procedure.

Reviews pre-admission testing results, consults, history and physicals.

Assesses clinical information and identifies abnormalities and clinical concerns. Then brings to attention of appropriate individuals. Follows up to ensure completion.

Consistently follows established guidelines

Implements physician protocols when appropriate

Will assist with coordination of additional testing if required.

Effectively communicates with patients/significant others, providers, office staffs, Associates and other healthcare providers

Utilizes effective interpersonal skills

Recognizes interdepartmental relationships and interacts effectively.

Effectively communicates pertinent patient information in a timely manner in both written and verbal context, while adhering to HIPPA policies.

Communicates with physicians, office staff, other healthcare providers, third party payers and vendors as needed

Demonstrates communication skills that and creates a cohesive, productive team environment.

Demonstrates ongoing competence in nursing assessment and decision-making skills.

Recognizes legal responsibilities and functions within limitations as specified by the Nurse Practice Act.

Maintains competence through practice and ongoing participation in in-services and formalized professional conferences.

Demonstrates the ability to perform with clinical proficiency in crises and medical emergencies

Demonstrates professionalism and adherence to ethical standards while performing duties.

Demonstrates initiative and self-direction in completion of tasks

Actively participates in and supports departmental and organizational quality initiative and goals

Attends and participates in meetings according to departmental standards

Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by PAT lead and Sr. Executive Director of Surgical services.

Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree-BSN, Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Minimum of 3 years varied clinical experience required
• Computer skills with EMR and Microsoft Products
• Current RN licensure by the State Board of Nursing, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
