Assistant Real Property Tax Service Aide

THE POSITION TITLE OF ASSISTANT REAL PROPERTY TAX SERVICE AIDE, IS PART OF THE CIVIL SERVICE HELP PROGRAM, WHICH AT THIS TIME DOES NOT REQUIRE A CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Assists the Real Property Tax Service Aide in the cross-checking and up-dating of computer records of real property tax data; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

This is moderately difficult work involving processing of real property tax data lists and files. The position may also involve field visits to town assessor offices. The work requires a basic understanding of specific tax assessment procedures. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a Real Property Tax Service Aide or the Director. Supervision may be exercised over the work of one or more clerical assistants. The incumbent can expect to attend appropriate training courses, as they become available. EXAMPLES OF WORK (Illustrative only) Schedules run of lists and/or reports with Information Technology Department; Reviews lists and/or reports returned from Information Technology for accuracy; Assists the Real Property Tax Service Aide in the preparation of tentative and final assessment rolls and tax rolls and bills; Helps prepare notices of change in assessment and assessors annual reports; Enters tax map changes in all data files in conjunction with tax map section; Assists the tax map section with coordinating tax auction property inventories and related duties; Works with mapping section involving data files in relation to GIS mapping systems; Can serve as liaison between assessors and County IT Department as directed by Real Property Tax Service Aide; Assists with coordinating the day-to-day entries of all computer data procedures; Assures timely filing of assessor’s reports and files; Corrects errors in assessment and/or tax rolls and resolves problems; Assists the Real Property Tax Service Aide with any related procedures as may be required. Working knowledge of principles and practices of real property assessment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to acquire a working knowledge of property assessment methods; ability to learn to read and understand property deeds, maps, and legal documents relating to real property valuations; ability to explain basic concepts of the data processing system to town assessors; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; integrity; tact; courtesy; good physical condition.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and one year of experience in work involving familiarity with real property assessment records, real estate values or title searching techniques or an equivalent combination of training and experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr Wayne County NY
