Radiology Tech - CT Trainee Program

RESPONIBILITIES

Act in accordance with Brown University Health’s Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conducts. Learning & Education Enroll in didactic training or complete MDIC training manuals to understand CT technology, physics, patient care, and safety procedures. Study anatomy, physiology, and pathology to recognize normal and abnormal imaging results. Gain proficiency in using CT software and equipment. Clinical Experience Participate in clinical rotations under the supervision of certified CT technologists; assist in patient preparation, explain procedures, ensure comfort; operate CT machines to acquire diagnostic images following established protocols; maintain accurate patient records and imaging documentation with two patient identifiers; set up imaging rooms, use proper isolation precautions; execute paperwork and Radiology Information System functions (schedule exam, complete exam, transfer images to PACS) using the Electronic Health Record; set up trays with sterile technique; perform time out, prepare contrasts, assist physicians in procedures; starting and maintaining IV access as prescribed. Patient Care Learn and practice appropriate patient care techniques, assess patient history, address concerns during CT process; assist in positioning patients correctly; monitor patients during imaging for safety and well‑being; collaborate with all departments and units to coordinate care; identify, prepare, and administer medications as prescribed per protocol. Safety & Compliance Adhere to radiation safety standards, use CT equipment safely, ensure ALARA; follow hospital and department policies regarding patient confidentiality and ethical standards. Technical Skills Development Gain hands‑on experience operating CT scanners, troubleshooting issues, adjusting parameters for image quality; interpret basic CT scans, understand imaging sequences, recognize artifacts; must agree to take the ARRT exam in CT imaging within 90 days of program completion; performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education Registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current CPR certification (AHA, BLS for Healthcare Providers). RI state radiation license from the DOH. Experience Preferred 1 year, unless applying to the new graduate training program. Work Environment and Physical Requirements Work location generally in the CT Scan area or satellite areas with minimal noise, dust, or temperature discomfort. Exposed to radiation; risk minimized by safety procedures. Long periods of standing, walking, pushing portable equipment, and lifting and positioning patients required. Independent Action Perform supervised job functions independently following departmental policies and practices; refer complex problems to supervisor for clarification. Supervisory Responsibility None.
