Job Summary Endpoint Engineers play a critical role in architecting and caring for the digital experience of Franklin County employees. They continuously research, design, deploy, administer, monitor, and collaboratively support complex end user hardware-and-software solutions (endpoints) that put the power of modern technologies into the hands of thousands of colleagues every day, each of whom plays a role in delivering vital public services to central Ohio residents. Our best Endpoint Engineers think deeply about how our end users experience their PCs, smartphones, and other tech at their fingertips—not just how those devices are configured technically. Our Engineers manage endpoint features and lifecycles with tools like Microsoft Intune, but the “north star” for this role is to continuously answer this question: Does this technology make someone's workday easier, faster, and less frustrating? Employees new to FCDC or promoted into new positions must complete a 180-day probationary period, and all employees must adhere to current Employee Handbook policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, Endpoint Engineers must be able to carry out each essential duty in a reliable and user‑focused manner. The following responsibilities apply to all Endpoint Engineer levels (1, 2, and 3): Support Windows client environments—including device configuration, Group Policy consumption, and Active Directory user/device object management—while maintaining readiness to assist with additional operating systems as they are adopted. Assist with Microsoft 365 application management and troubleshooting (Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint), Azure AD groups and permissions, and endpoint-related Enterprise Mobility Suite features in collaboration with peer teams. Use and maintain endpoint management tools such as Intune, Autopilot, SCCM, and MDM solutions in partnership with Enterprise Support and Security teams. Plan, schedule, and communicate client-impacting upgrade or maintenance events, ensuring coordination with application owners and users. Help produce documented testing and integration plans for onboarding new client systems, applications, and services. Follow established change management procedures for all client-related deployments, fixes, and configuration updates. Create and maintain clear documentation for endpoint processes, build steps, configuration standards, and client-related cloud workflow diagrams. Stay current on industry trends and emerging endpoint technologies that support modern device management. Identify opportunities to improve device performance, user experience, productivity tools, and endpoint service efficiency. Ensure endpoint operations align with regulatory requirements, audit standards, and organizational policies. Monitor M365 and related client applications for issues, outages, degraded performance, and functional impacts. Participate in ITIL‑based incident management and limited on‑call rotations, providing user‑focused troubleshooting, escalation, and resolution during regular and after‑hours support. Directly encourage professional and skills development in junior engineers and analysts and support cross-training efforts. Endpoint Engineers must also collaborate with a variety of FCDC teams, including: IT leadership and architecture teams to align endpoint strategies with broader FCDC initiatives, and to provide input on device‑related policies, standards, and roadmaps. Support teams on equipment lifecycle activities, including device provisioning, refresh planning, and retirement workflows. Financial Services for vendor evaluations, hardware and software procurement, contract renewals, and coordinating third‑party service engagements. Server, Storage, and Cloud teams on client‑related integrations, without owning server/network infrastructure. Third‑party vendors to assist with device support, hardware services, application updates, and endpoint‑focused projects. Project Managers and internal clients to support system upgrades, client‑side maintenance tasks, technical debt remediation, and project planning activities—including work breakdown details, labor hour estimates, and technical requirements. All other FCDC technical and service delivery teams to ensure smooth cross-functional operations and a consistent, user‑focused technology experience. All other duties as assigned. Additional Information Note: Levels 1, 2, and 3 are distinguished by specific measures of performance, education, and experience. The tables below outline standard boundaries between each of the levels. Keep in mind that years of service alone is not sufficient justification for promotion. An employee must demonstrate consistent next-level performance to become eligible for promotion.
