About Westville Correctional Facility: Westville Correctional Facility is a multi-level security facility located in Westville, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,400 incarcerated adult males. Originally built as a state hospital, the campus was converted to a correctional facility in 1979. The institution offers numerous programs focused on education, re-entry, and community service. Partnerships include Gold Standard Truss, which operates a truss manufacturing site on facility grounds, and the Moreau College Initiative through the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College. Incarcerated individuals can develop valuable vocational and academic skills. Staff maintain an environment that promotes safety, structure, and rehabilitation.

Role Overview: As a Maintenance Technician, you'll be part of a full-service maintenance team at the brand-new, modernized Westville Correctional Facility. This upgraded environment features newer, more efficient HVAC systems and contemporary infrastructure, giving you the opportunity to work with updated equipment and build confidence in today's maintenance technologies. You'll support daily repair and preventive maintenance across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds. This Monday–Friday position offers steady day-shift hours (6:00 am–2:00 pm), strong safety practices, and hands-on experience in a clean, modern workspace designed for efficiency. Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Depending on the retirement plan you choose, the total compensation value of a $42,900.00 salary, including the State's retirement contributions, can reach approximately $69,822.98. This highlights the full value of your benefits package, beyond your take-home pay.

A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Solicit cost estimates or cost proposals.
• Estimate costs and work hours for maintenance projects.
• Oversee and participates in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities
• Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Ensure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirements
• Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
• Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.
• Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
• Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success: Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

• Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
• Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
• Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents.
• Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
• Thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areas.
• Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costs.
• Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
• Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
• Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• A degree is not required.
• Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports: This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group. This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
