As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Working in conjunction with school nurse at JFK High School, you will provide top-quality patient care to diverse populations of patients under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, optometrist and/or podiatrist. An LPN in this role is familiar with performing patient care activities, documenting patient care, administering medication, observing patients' health and maintaining/restocking medical equipment and supplies.

A caregiver in this role works days from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Collect and document objective and subjective data and observations about the patient.

• Contribute observations and health information to the nursing assessment and report all data to the RN or authorized health care provider.

• Implement the current plan of nursing care at the direction of the RN, or the medication or treatment authorized by the authorized directing health care provider.

• Document and verbally communicate the patient's response to the nursing plan of care, or the medication or treatment including observing patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments.

• Perform routine laboratory tests.

• Contribute to the revision of the nursing plan of care

• Provide education and information to patients and family members.

• Maintain professional growth and development within nursing field.

• Participate in the departmental orientation of new employees in a positive manner, share knowledge and experience.

• Provide guidance when assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate of an approved school of Practical Nursing

• Current Ohio license as a Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• One year of patient care experience

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good hand-eye coordination, involves extensive standing walking and occasional lifting.

• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

• Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

• Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.

• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
