Job Description The WESH 2/CW18 News Internship Program is a paid, rigorous, and highly competitive hands‑on experience that provides individuals the opportunity to learn about the operations of a broadcast television station. Participants will develop news writing, producing, reporting, and digital media skills while learning from award‑winning staff at WESH 2 News. Additional opportunities are available in the behind‑the‑scenes areas of production/studio operations, weather, and marketing/promotions. This internship prepares you for work in a real newsroom, offering experience in nearly every aspect of news production. Fall 2026 Session Application Window: July 1 2026 – Aug 1 2026 Session: Sep 21 2026 – Dec 11 2026 Dates are subject to change. Internship Application Requirements To apply, please provide a cover letter that includes: Semester (Spring, Summer, or Fall) (if applicable) Department preference Available start and end dates Days and hours available to intern Available Internships Newsroom Interns work alongside reporters, producers, and news managers to learn skills in nearly all aspects of television news production, including on‑scene reporting, producing, video editing, research, and assignment desk work. Production/Studio Operations Interns learn the technical aspects of live news broadcasts. Training includes robotic cameras, floor directing, lighting, and set‑up. Interns should be comfortable with height, able to lift light equipment, and willing to work non‑traditional hours. Digital Interns learn how newsrooms publish content to digital platforms, analyze real‑time online metrics, and research, write, and publish stories for WESH.com. Weather Interns must have a working knowledge of a meteorology curriculum or a closely related program of study. Participants work with meteorologists to develop and deliver forecast information for television and online audiences. Marketing/Promotions Interns with interest in marketing, advertising, promotion, or production will receive hands‑on experience in these areas. Orientation Accepted interns receive an instruction packet. The first day at the station is set aside for orientation, which is mandatory. Interns work three days a week, eight hours per shift on varying schedules. Securing housing and transportation during the internship is the responsibility of the student.
