Global Therapeutic Area Head (TAH), Neurology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases

Position Overview The Global Therapeutic Area Head (TAH), Neurology, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases, leads large-scale multidisciplinary teams and drives the strategy and portfolio of products from research and development to patient delivery. The role is part of Roche’s Global Product Strategy group and serves as a standing member of the GPS Leadership Team, contributing to the long‑range vision, strategy, and plans for GPS and Roche Pharma. Key Responsibilities Define, set, align, and oversee implementation or adoption of the long‑range vision and global strategy for the diverse therapeutic areas of Neurology and Immunology. Lead the development and execution of a robust, integrated, and cohesive vision and Therapeutic Area Strategic Plan that includes individual global pipeline, disease‑area, and lifecycle strategies and plans for all assets, indications, and disease areas across Neurology, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases. Optimize resource allocation to ensure strategic portfolio and financial outcomes across GPS. Ensure rigorous commercial assessments of PhaseI–III results, providing expert insights, strategic options, and recommendations to executives and Strategic Portfolio Committees regarding therapeutic‑area assets and their market potential. Catalyze Lifecycle Teams (LCTs), Disease‑Area Strategy Teams (DATs), Commercialization Leadership Teams (CLTs), and Integrated Development and Commercialization Planning (IDCP) Teams to coordinate activities across Roche for global and affiliate alignment. Ensure Neurology and Immunology teams provide asset‑leadership guidance, commercial insights, and analytical support for licensing and other business‑development activities. Partner with the Immunology Pharma Portfolio Team (IPPT) and Neurology Pharma Portfolio Team (NPPT) leaders to realize TA and DA strategies, supporting portfolio considerations, opportunity assessments, and trade‑offs while fostering end‑to‑end TA collaboration. Co‑chair Business and Development Boards and TAH meetings, ensuring robust and rigorous asset and program‑level decision making. At the Development Board, ensure programs meet the “Bar” criteria; at the Business Board, guide evaluation of commercial value drivers, target product profiles, and financial metrics such as NPV to optimize an asset’s path to value. Empower teams to make well‑informed recommendations to the ESPCs/LSPC, increasing the probability of delivering transformative medicines. Architect an organization that fosters the mindsets needed for greater speed, flexibility, and customer‑centricity, enabling faster and more effective patient delivery. Lead the GPS function by defining, developing, and executing long‑range vision, strategy, plan, and outcomes for the overall GPS function. Inspire the team and lead transparently through change. Recruit, coach, develop, and retain talent, ensuring a strong and diverse succession plan for key positions. Shape the Roche system by developing a pragmatic roadmap, enabling integration of care and launch of integrated solutions. Identify opportunities for greater customer‑centricity, flexibility, and operating efficiency across the organization. Model high‑performance culture, mindset, and behaviors—experiment, learn fast, collaborate, practice servant leadership—while fostering connection, transparency, and knowledge sharing across the Roche enterprise. Key Qualifications and Experience Extensive multidisciplinary work experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry. Outstanding people leader and developer in a multicultural and virtual environment. Demonstrated ability to lead business and people through high‑impact change and transformation. Experience in Neurology and Immunology disease areas preferred. Mastery of strategic business planning processes, including development, implementation, and metrics. Experience leading large commercial organizations and/or substantial drug‑development experience, with at least one drug or indication launch. Accomplishments in developing and executing breakthrough development or commercial strategies that produced financial results and long‑term success for multiple products. Education Graduate degree, preferably an MBA or MSA (MD or PhD is a plus). Additional Requirements Extensive knowledge and experience with business‑development, alliance partners, or licensing activities. Confirmed ability to work effectively in a matrix environment across multiple geographies, cultures, and time zones. Outstanding partnership skills and a track record of identifying opportunities that improved results beyond direct management or influence. Ability to travel globally 30%–40% of the time. Proficient written and verbal English. Location and Compensation Primary location: South SanFrancisco, CA. Secondary location: Basel, Switzerland. Salary range (South SanFrancisco, CA): $418,200–$517,230. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job‑related factors permitted by law.
