Custodial Maintenance WorkerUnder general and limited supervision, perform a wide variety of custodial maintenance duties to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment in public buildings. Performs cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance of assigned space.This position exercises no supervision over other employees.Important and essential duties include:Sweep, vacuum and mop floors.Dust and clean offices and other work areas.Collect and remove waste.Clean & restock restrooms.Strip and wax floors.Move or lift furniture, boxes, and other materials.Open and close the facility for use and secure the facility for closing.Operate carpet extractor machine and buffers to polish floors.Operate a City vehicle or personal vehicle to travel between City facilities in order to complete assigned work.Other job related duties include performing other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:Knowledge of:Tools, chemicals, materials, methods, and best practices used in custodial operations.Occupational hazards and safety precautions of custodial operations.Proper use and care of a variety of tools, materials, and equipment common to custodial operations.Skill to:Operate a variety of custodial equipment including vacuum cleaner, carpet machine, and buffer.Ability to:Maintain a schedule of cleaning and work with a minimum of supervision.Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.Follow and embrace the City of Abilene Core Values – Respect, Integrity, Service Above Self, and Excellence in All We Do.Perform as a team member in a manner that accomplishes the Division's mission and treats team members with dignity, courtesy, and respect.Experience and training guidelines include:Experience:Experience in custodial work is preferred.Education/Training:Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.License or Certificate:A current valid Texas driver's license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.Special Requirements:Exposure to noise, outdoors, vibration, and confining work spaces.Exposure to chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards.Ability to travel to different sites.Physical demand codes include:E StandingI SittingE WalkingM LiftingM CarryingM Pushing/PullingI Overhead WorkI Fine DexterityM KneelingM CrouchingI CrawlingM BendingM TwistingI ClimbingM BalancingM VisionM HearingM Talking
