TERM: 12 Months LOCATION: Bell Gardens, CA The Organization: Human Services Association (HSA) is a private nonprofit agency whose principal mission is to provide families with compassionate and comprehensive care to promote wellness and build strong communities. HSA was founded in Bell Gardens in 1940 and today, HSA serves over 20,000 clients annually on a non-sectarian basis with a range of services that addresses the unique and shared needs of clients of all ages. Program Overview: Our Early Childhood Education Department provides services to 600 children over three distinct programs (Early Head Start, Head Start and State Preschool) at ten school sites. The California State Preschool Program provides a pre-school experience for children ages 3 to 5 in the cities of South Gate and Huntington Park. The Early Head Start Program is a federally funded program that provides a home based and center based program for pregnant women and children ages 0-3 that reside in zip codes of 90201 and 90280. The Head Start Program offers a comprehensive child development program for low-income preschoolers ages three to five years old that reside in zip code 90280. Position Summary: The Home-Based Educator provides child development services, social services, health services and parent involvement services to families, including home visits, socializations, advocacy and crisis intervention in accordance with federal, state and program guidelines. Responsible for delivering prenatal education and home-based education, as defined by Head Start Performance Standards, to families and services, which include planning safe and developmentally appropriate experiences for pregnant women, infants/ toddlers, and/or preschool child in an in-home setting that is appropriate to the needs of each family. Develops and implements partnerships with families, including collaboration on child goals. Assists families with building on their strengths and develops plans to address areas of concern. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Child Development & Education Provide child development, parent education, and family support during home visits, utilizing the GGK Curriculum. Plan for and facilitate parent-child interactions and socialization groups. Provide developmentally appropriate curriculum and a nurturing environment for infants and toddlers. Develop individual development plans and child goals in partnership with parents. Complete weekly reports identifying progress in meeting school readiness goals. Participate in IFSP/IEP and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings, as needed. 2. Family Support & Case Management Support families in achieving their goals. Assist families in obtaining health services or other services and retrieving child/family data. Implement comprehensive child development and family support services in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards. 3. Record Keeping & Compliance Maintain accurate and confidential records. Ensure all child education files are current and accurate. Identify and report suspected child abuse following Mandated Reporter Guidelines. Communicate respectfully and in a culturally sensitive manner with children, families, and staff. Work as a member of the agency team, promoting the mission and philosophy. Represent the agency at community and professional functions. 5. Professional Conduct & Development Model the Standard of Conduct Policy. Maintain good attendance and punctuality. Participate positively in all program activities. Attend meetings, trainings, and continue professional development. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel for trainings. 6. Community Engagement & Recruitment Participate in at least two recruitment activities or community events. Attend department, agency, and community meetings as assigned. 7. Additional Responsibilities Assist with other tasks as needed, in line with the team philosophy. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or Department Director. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: Basic principles of child development and early childhood education. Knowledge of community resources, preferred. Record-keeping and basic report preparation techniques. Operation of office equipment. Computer knowledge Good writing and record-keeping skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Ability to implement the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards and other regulations. Ability to work independently as well as in a team. Able to work independently, with little direction. Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Plan and organize work and meet schedules and timelines. Handle difficult situations and provide crisis intervention referrals to assigned families. Ability to read, speak and write with proficiency in the English language. Education And Experience: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or in a related field; or Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education or in a related field, preferred Must possess a minimum three (3) Infant/Toddler units. At least One (1) year of experience in early childhood education, social services, or a family support program, Early Head Start/Head Start experience and Home Visiting experience preferred Knowledge and experience working with Head Start Performance Standards, Title V, Title 22, CACFP Regulations and other State and Federal Regulations Licensing/Certification Requirements: Possess or meet requirements for Associate Teacher Permit or higher. Driving is required. Must provide your own vehicle, valid California Driver’s License and proof of full insurance coverage. First Aid certification, Child CPR certification. Health screening: Physical Negative tuberculosis screen (TB)(required). TDAP or DTAP clearance (required) MMR Clearance (required) We require the selected candidate to undergo a criminal background check using the Live Scan fingerprinting method in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
