The General Manager (GM) provides strategic leadership and operational direction for the company’s concrete construction operations. This role oversees financial performance, safety, quality, business development, equipment utilization, project delivery, and personnel leadership. The GM is responsible for supporting the safe, timely, budget-conscious, and quality-focused completion of projects in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, contract requirements, and established quality standards.

Executive Leadership

•        Provide strategic leadership for concrete construction operations.

•        Develop and execute annual business plans, operational goals, and growth initiatives.

•        Promote accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

•        Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) across departments.

•        Lead organizational planning, succession development, and management alignment.

Operations Management

•        Oversee commercial, industrial, DOT, municipal, residential, and private concrete construction projects.

•        Support safe, timely, and budget-conscious project delivery in compliance with contract requirements and applicable standards.

•        Coordinate schedules, workforce planning, equipment, subcontractors, and field resources.

•        Review project progress, resolve issues, and implement corrective action as needed.

•        Optimize resources to improve productivity, efficiency, and project outcomes.

Financial Management

•        Manage division profit and loss (P&L) performance.

•        Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.

•        Monitor project profitability, job costing, revenue, and margin trends.

•        Review monthly financial reports and support improvements to margins and cash flow.

•        Review backlog reports and job cost reports.

•        Approve major expenditures, capital purchases, and significant financial commitments.

•        Control overhead expenses and drive operational efficiencies.

Business Development

•        Build relationships with owners, developers, municipalities, engineers, architects, and general contractors.

•        Identify new business opportunities, growth initiatives, and market expansion strategies.

•        Support proposal development, bid strategy, and contract negotiations.

•        Represent the company at client meetings, networking events, and industry functions.

Estimating and Preconstruction

•        Oversee estimating, bidding, and preconstruction activities.

•        Review major bids, proposals, and pricing assumptions before submission.

•        Evaluate project risks, contract requirements, and pricing strategies.

•        Support smooth handoffs from estimating to operations.

Safety and Risk Management

•        Promote and model a company-wide safety culture.

•        Support compliance with OSHA, MSHA as applicable, DOT, EPA, and company safety policies.

•        Review incident investigations, corrective actions, and safety performance trends.

•        Support initiatives that reduce claims, incidents, and safety-related costs.

Equipment and Asset Management

•        Oversee fleet utilization, equipment maintenance, and asset planning.

•        Approve equipment purchases, replacements, and major repair decisions.

•        Maximize equipment productivity while minimizing downtime and operating costs.

Quality Assurance

•        Ensure work meets project specifications, contract requirements, and quality standards.

•        Implement improvements that strengthen quality, productivity, and consistency.

•        Monitor customer satisfaction and resolve client concerns promptly and professionally.

Qualifications

Education

•        Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

•        Typically requires 10–15+ years of progressive leadership experience in concrete construction or a related field.

•        Typically requires 5+ years of senior management or executive leadership experience.

•        Demonstrated ability to manage multiple construction projects simultaneously.

•        Working knowledge of commercial, civil, structural, paving, foundation, site concrete, or heavy highway construction preferred.

Knowledge

•        Concrete construction methods and best practices.

•        OSHA safety regulations and applicable compliance requirements.

•        Project scheduling tools and construction management systems.

•        Construction accounting, job costing, budgeting, and forecasting.

•        Contract administration, estimating, procurement, and risk review.

•        Equipment management and labor productivity analysis.

•        Employee retention, client satisfaction, and cash flow performance.

•        Equipment utilization and operational efficiency.

Physical Requirements

•        Regularly travel to construction sites, with or without reasonable accommodation.
