Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a 13-week nights assignment requiring CA RN licensure, advanced fetal monitoring certification, and c-section circulating experience.

Details

• Acute care Level III trauma hospital setting on a combined L&D/Postpartum unit
• 14 L&D beds, 6 triage beds, 2 OR suites, and 28 postpartum beds
• Unit averages 250 births per month
• Patient population includes any gestational age, antepartum, high-risk deliveries, substance abuse, pre-eclampsia, and insulin-dependent diabetics
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 2:1 for laboring patients (AWHONN guidelines) and 1:4 for couplet care
• Uses Cerner EMR and Fetal Link fetal heart monitoring system
• Philips telemetry equipment used; no ventilator management required
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirement, though standby may be needed
• Holiday coverage worked in with permanent staff rotation
• Float requirement to postpartum unit; postpartum staff do not float to L&D
• 3-shift floor-specific orientation provided
• Charge nurse typically does not carry a patient assignment
• OB tech support available on both day and night shifts
• RT and pharmacy support available 24/7
• No dedicated IV team; OB/neonatologist not in-house but available if needed

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN)
• C-section circulating experience required; scrubbing experience preferred
• Postpartum staff must hold BLS and NRP certifications
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across labor, delivery, and postpartum units
• Circulate for c-section procedures as needed
• Navy scrubs provided for postpartum staff; seal blue scrubs provided for OB tech and L&D nurses
• First-time travelers may be considered for this role
