Assistant Athletic Adjunct Instructor

Reports To: Athletic Coordinator/Building Administrator FSLA Status: Exempt Compensation: Extra Duty (In accordance with the Negotiated Agreement.) Work Days: Determined by assignment. FTE: Extra Duty Assistant Athletic Coach Position Summary: Position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the athletic program at the assigned school. Position assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. Assists in developing a winning program that results in student athletes that achieve their potential academically, athletically, socially, and morality. Essential Duties: This is an extra duty assignment, which will expire at the end of the assignment period and is therefore not protected by continuing contract law. Compensation will be based upon the provision of the Negotiated Agreement. Assists the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach. Assesses player's skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students. Assists with determining game strategy. Assists the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. Assists students to be academically eligible to compete in college athletics. May assists student athletes with college selection. Works with coaches at other levels and other schools to develop a consistent program in which student athletes try out for teams. Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security. Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach. Assists the head coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season. Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies. Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records. Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required): The assistant athletic coach must be employed by Oklahoma City Public Schools and must know the policies, rules and eligibility requirements of the specified sport as well as the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association rules. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students. Successfully completion of Care and Prevention of Athletic Injury, Concession Care, Fundamentals of Coaching, and Heat Acclimatization and Heat Illness Prevention training. Ability to tolerate constructive criticism and a commitment to give all players a fair opportunity to be a part of the athletic program. Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities): Some experience as an Assistant Coach at the high school or college level. Member of the Oklahoma Coach's Association (OCA). Physical/Mental Requirements: Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer. Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties. Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone. Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 50 pounds. Sitting for prolonged periods of time. May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
