Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to high-risk and high-volume obstetric patients, including midwifery clients and private OBs. This role involves managing deliveries, newborn care, and supporting postpartum and antepartum patients across multiple units. The nurse will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care for laboring patients, including high-risk cases and first-time mothers.
• Function as Baby Nurse during deliveries, providing immediate newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
• Perform newborn assessments, including eye care, Vitamin K injections, and monitoring.
• Administer and monitor medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
• Float between postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities as needed to support Mother/Baby units.
• Utilize electronic fetal monitoring and EPIC electronic health records with hard stop protocols.
• Adhere to AWHONN guidelines for staffing and clinical care.
• Collaborate effectively with midwives, OB providers, and recovery services supporting substance recovery.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communication regarding patient status and care plans.

• Current Registered Nurse license with active compact status accepted.
• Minimum 1 year of high-risk Labor and Delivery nursing experience.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity obstetric environment.
• Strong skills in electronic fetal monitoring and EPIC electronic health records.

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications.

• Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
• Float to postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
• Strict adherence to hard stop requirements for newborn care and circulation during deliveries.
• High volume unit with average daily census of 15 patients and 500-600 deliveries per month.
• Must be able to work in a high-risk, high-acuity environment with multiple ORs and 31 beds.

• Schedule is posted every 6 weeks and designed to meet unit staffing needs.
• Shift work includes day and night rotations as required by the unit.
