Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary: The Respiratory Therapist performs, assists, and instructs in all therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care areas for inpatient and outpatient populations ranging from infants to adults. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry. Prioritizes patient workload based on acuity and assesses patient needs in respiratory therapy, providing recommendations to attending physicians. Administers therapeutic interventions such as oxygen, aerosol therapies, chest percussion/vibration, bronchial hygiene, and sustained maximal inspiration. Documents all therapeutic procedures in patient charts, adhering to standard operating procedures. Conducts cardiopulmonary diagnostics per physician orders, including arterial puncture, blood gas sampling, ECG, pulse oximetry, capnography, pulmonary function testing, and bronchoscopy assistance. Performs basic and advanced life support procedures, including invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, bi‑level pressure support, CPAP, and evaluates effectiveness of life‑support interventions. Plans and delivers patient and family education tailored to individual needs, provides in‑service education in specialized areas, and performs home‑care device instruction. Maintains emergency airway carts and collaborates with other clinical departments for quality care. Participates in discharge planning, attends mandated in‑services and staff meetings, and applies evidence‑based best practices. Manages medical supply inventories, processes dirty equipment per infection control policies, and ensures accurate, timely documentation in EMR. Supports student learning and contributes to a welcoming educational environment. Performs other duties consistent with this role. Job Knowledge and Skills Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle multiple priorities under pressure. Skilled in stabilization of patients with respiratory distress, invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, inhaled bronchodilator therapy, and arterial blood gas sampling. Attentive to detail, proficient in medical terminology, and computer literate. Advocates for patient rights and understands English language proficiency requirements. Flexible schedule, able to work rotating weekends and holidays in a 24/7 environment. Education and Experience Active BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required within 30 days of hire. One year of respiratory therapy preferred; an AMA‑approved 2‑year associate degree in respiratory care required. Current State License to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted. Working Conditions and Physical Demands OSHA Category I exposure to blood/body fluids. Must work in a high‑paced environment, perform tasks such as sitting, standing, twisting, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching, and lift up to 50 lbs. Protective equipment: respirator, gloves, goggles, gown, and other PPE.
