RN MedSurg PCU

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital setting. The RN must be experienced in multiple nursing areas, demonstrate flexibility to work across departments, and maintain active licensure. Key functions include patient education, safety management, infection control, accurate documentation, and effective communication with healthcare teams to ensure quality patient care. Responsibilities:

• Assess patient and significant others' needs for education and provide appropriate teaching using various modalities.
• Implement and monitor patient safety measures such as side rails, restraints, and safe equipment use, following restraint policies rigorously.
• Operate and troubleshoot essential equipment in PCU, telemetry, and MedSurg areas, following repair procedures and utilizing equipment manuals as needed.
• Apply infection control and isolation procedures using standard precautions and proper documentation.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions, and patient responses throughout the shift.
• Accurately document charge nurse responsibilities and complete physician orders timely, including 24-hour order checks when assigned.
• Provide thorough change-of-shift reports to oncoming staff.
• Communicate effectively and completely with other departments and report critical lab values to physicians promptly.
• Maintain and restock emergency carts, patient rooms, and general supplies as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support unit operations and patient care.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Washington.
• Minimum of 3 years nursing experience preferred, with proficiency in Medical-Surgical and Progressive Care environments.
• Strong knowledge of patient education, safety protocols, infection control, and equipment operation.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and flexibly work across departments as needed.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in telemetry and progressive care nursing.
• Familiarity with emergency cart maintenance and supply management.
• Additional certifications related to critical care or telemetry nursing.

Special Considerations:

• Must adhere to restraint policies and infection control protocols strictly.
• Flexibility to work in multiple nursing departments within the facility.
• Maintain readiness to report critical lab values and manage urgent patient care needs promptly.

Scheduling:

• Day shift schedule for MSU/PCU nursing staff.
• Shift assignments may vary based on department needs and staffing requirements.
