Inspector I (Marianna Operations Center)

This position will perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Performs independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. These activities are performed by either in-house personnel or by entities outside of the Department. Verifies that work is performed according to all state and federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, rules. Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements.

Prepares records and reports for work completed and other related documents accurately and in a timely manner. Prepares all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors. Prepares project correspondence and records as necessary during the administration of contracts through the use of various computer programs. Enters/assists with the preparation of documents to be added to the electronic document management system as required.

Performs interpretation of governing documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control

(Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation/placement and materials to ensure safe work zones. Reviews work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and takes corrective measures when deficiencies are noted.

Conducts surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures. Provides survey of roadway items to be inventoried for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI). Fills out data coding sheet and enters roadway data into computer data base as needed. Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs.

Assists in the assembly of payment packages for contracts in accordance with established processes.

Assists in identifying and producing documents in relation to public records request. Prepares and issues work documents on contracts as requested.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• roadway Maintenance activities;
• how to enter and retrieve information from a computer database.

Skill in:

• organizing records and handling multiple tasks and interruptions.

Ability to:

• communicate technical information verbally and in writing;
• understand and interpret plans, specifications, design standards and manuals;

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

• Must obtain the Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) certification and the Qualified Stormwater Management Inspector certification (Florida Department of Environmental Protection through the Stormwater, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Training Program) within one year and maintain it.
• While on-duty status, may be required to drive a state owned or leased vehicle to perform the duties of this position.
• Valid Class E Driver License is required.

Other Job-Related Requirements:

• Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies and be "on call" (24-hour duty) when necessary.
• The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
• May be required to work with or around hazardous materials; work nights and weekends and be available for emergency response work as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency and
• Class E Driver License.

This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Driver's Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

1. three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
2. any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
3. a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
4. a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
