The RN provides care to patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the institution's philosophy. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit, specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN ensures good communication with patients and families by utilizing meaningful hourly rounding, bedside report, and whiteboards. The RN works with ventilated patients for early mobility. The RN collaborates with the team to ensure the best outcomes. The RN prepares equipment and aids physicians during examinations and treatments of patients. The RN responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol. The RN monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients and interprets and records electronic displays. This includes intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, and cardiac rhythms from monitors, respirators, ventilators, and oxygen pumps.
