HVAC Mechanic (SC)

Job Summary Maintain, repair, install and operate boilers, refrigeration equipment, generators, air conditioning facilities and all appurtenant equipment driven by steam, air, diesel, gas, water, or any other power‑developing energy. The role patrols, inspects, and maintains all mechanical equipment to achieve the most economical and efficient results. HVAC certification is required. Duties/Responsibilities Perform maintenance and repair of HVAC systems. Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, refrigerators, freezers, and hot/chilled water pumps. Operate systems and evaluate equipment to determine needed repairs. Install refrigeration and air conditioning systems, positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters, and other components in accordance with design specifications. Charge refrigeration systems with refrigerant and test for leaks. Start units and adjust cut‑in and cut‑out for refrigeration units, humidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, and circulating pumps. Adjust systems for optimal performance and maintain performance monitoring. Maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems by checking performance and diagnosing problems. Install, maintain and repair the electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Operate all types of centrifugal and reciprocating refrigeration/air‑conditioning systems; all types of pneumatic/electro‑mechanical temperature controls, chillers, and boilers. Perform necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systems and equipment. Required Skills and Abilities Read blueprints, sketches, and specifications for air conditioning and refrigeration systems; follow oral instructions and use shop mathematics. Broad trade knowledge of mechanical principles on standard shop methods of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Trade. Interpret and develop technical reports. Operate testing equipment for the systems; use all required tools and equipment. Follow standard methods and procedures, while having the ability to perform unusual and difficult operations when needed. Proficient written and oral communication skills. Function well in a high‑paced and at times stressful environment. Strong computer skills: read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents. Perform arithmetic in all units of measure, compute rate, ratio, and percent, and interpret bar graphs. Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Proficient with Microsoft Office productivity suite. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of related experience. Experience and/or certification in predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, infrared, ultrasound, etc.). Physical Requirements Prolonged standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands. Occasional prolonged exposure to loud noise. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times. Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary. Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels. Exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals. Special Qualifications and Requirements Successfully pass a federal, state, or local government's background investigation.
