GENERAL NATURE OF WORK The purpose of this classification is to perform general and specialized accounting work involving the application of bookkeeping principles and maintenance of the City's fiscal records. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Perform daily accounting functions for assigned accounts and reports; enter and post financial data; prepare journal entries; reconcile assigned accounts; calculate data and enter data into computer systems; research errors and make corrections as required; generate reports; maintain financial records; prepare tax forms; and submit mandatory reports.
• Maintain accounting records for assigned City funds; analyze general ledger accounts for accuracy and appropriateness of transactions; review cash receipts and deposits, as well as journal, for accuracy; perform monthly closeout of general ledger for assigned accounts.
• Assist with departmental procedures, including audit procedures per supervisor guidance.
• Perform cash flow analysis and comprehensive review of assigned City funds; review account balances; verify money transfers; review cash deposit receipts; ensure deposits made to proper accounts; maintain related files and documentation.
• Provide assistance as needed for auditors by assisting with the preparation of audit documents and related support.
• Participate in special projects as assigned; research, compile, and prepare reports; analyze data; assist in making financial decisions; serve on committees; submit all mandated reports to regulatory agencies or others as required.
• Assist in preparing the annual budget; by compiling and proofreading completed budget for printing.
• Communicate with supervisor, City employees, banking personnel, auditors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
• Prepare or complete various forms, report, correspondence, budget spreadsheets, financial statements, general ledger spreadsheets, trend reports, or other documents.
• Receive various forms, report, correspondence, journal entries, bank statements, deposit slips, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; review, complete, process, forward or retain as appropriate.
• Attend workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
• Operate a personal computer, general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
• Perform other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

• Ability to exercise discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.
• Requires the ability to apply principles of persuasion and/or influence over others in coordinating activities of a project, program, or designated area of responsibility.
• Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
• Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, advisory and/or design data and information.
• Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, and ratios; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.
• Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
• Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Two or more years of governmental accounting or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. ADA Requirements: Individuals applying for the posted position must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation. Physical Requirements: This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
