Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Description:

The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for leading and implementing environmental, health, and safety programs within the automotive parts manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement in workplace safety. The EHS Specialist partners with plant leadership, operations, and engineering teams to mitigate risk, improve environmental performance, and support the organizations goal of maintaining a zero-incident workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

• Regulatory Compliance & Audits
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations including OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, and DOT requirements.
• Conduct internal EHS audits and support regulatory inspections.
• Maintain environmental permits, regulatory filings, and compliance documentation including
• Tier II reporting, Form R, and hazardous waste records.
• Monitor and interpret regulatory updates and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.
• Risk Management & Hazard Prevention
• Conduct workplace hazard assessments including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
• Implement and monitor safety controls related to machine guarding, chemical safety (SDS), fall protection, and ergonomics.
• Investigate workplace incidents and near misses using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions.
• Support initiatives to reduce Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and improve overall safety performance.
• Additional assignments (as needed)

Working Conditions:

• Work performed in both office and manufacturing floor environments.
• Exposure to noise, moving equipment, temperature fluctuations, and industrial processes.
• Occasional off-shift work required to support training, investigations, or audits.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 25 years of EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial operations.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA/TCEQ, and DOT regulatory requirements.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
• Ability to perform floor-based safety activities and wear PPE as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• OSHA 30, HAZWOPER 24/40, or related certifications.
• Experience with hazardous waste management and injury/incident investigations.
• Experience in automotive manufacturing or new facility launch environments.
