Job Description:

The Registered Nurse in the ICU is responsible for managing complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases. The RN will work in a mixed unit divided into pods and may float to different ICUs based on experience. Cardiac experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities:

• Care for complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases.
• Manage various patient diagnoses including ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-surgical, and trauma.
• Work with a patient ratio of RN: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (rare cases).
• Participate in orientations and training as needed.

Requirements:

• 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience.
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications are required.
• Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing and current RN license in South Dakota.
• Experience with Epic, common ICU procedures and medications, and strong critical thinking skills.
• Comfortable working 48 hours per week and floating to the ED or other units if necessary.
• Experience with IV medications, hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry is essential.

Unit Description
General Information
Beds: 39 - MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU - mixed unit
Minimal Experience:
2 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel experience is most preferred
If they have 1.5 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel, please have CRT send to management team for approval
Will you accept a first-time traveler? No. Minimum one prior travel assignment
Traveler must reside >100 miles outside of facility
Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Patient Types:
Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
Diagnoses include: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma - heavy trauma population
Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR - 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this - given to permanent staff
Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:1, 2:1, 3:1
