Geographic Information System SpecialistEmployment Status: Full TimeFLSA Status: Non-ExemptExperience Required: Two (2) years of full-time experience with spatial data and the maintenance of GIS databases or utility or asset management GIS systems.Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Surveying, Geography, Urban Planning, or similarly related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a completed apprenticeship program associated with GIS.Licensing / Certifications: Must possess a valid Driver’s License.Direct Supervisor: Planning Department ManagerPeople Supervised: Direct (0), Indirect (0), Supervise and/or train employees of the same classification or lower depending on the task.Physical Requirements: Visual and Hearing acuity, physically mobilePrimary Work Location: Office Environment; frequent interaction with staff and the public.Job Summary: Under general direction from the Planning Department Manager, assists in development, creation and maintenance of geographic information systems (GIS) databases using GIS hardware or software applications. Provides technical expertise in GIS technology to users. Coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies. Performs related work as required.Essential Job Functions:An employee in this position may be called upon to perform any or all of the following essential duties:Maintain and update GIS databases, layers, and metadata to ensure accuracy and consistency.Manage geospatial data collection through GPS, field surveys, and external sources.Produce data layers, maps, tables, or reports, using spatial analysis procedures or Geographic Information Systems technology, equipment, or systems.Generate, format, and deliver custom maps and interactive visualizations for internal departments and the public.Collaborate with staff to plan data collection efforts and integrate GPS data into the central GIS system.Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.Prepare analytical reports.Manage the development and implementation of GIS policies, workflows, and long-term data management strategies.Provide technical support for software maintenance or use.Assist in developing Township GIS policies, operating procedures, and long-term strategies.Support Township personnel with GIS software, training, and analysis.Knowledge / Skills / AbilitiesAn employee in this class must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon application:Knowledge ofSpatial analysis and statistics.GIS software and programs particularly ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online and integration with other data management or mapping software.Database systems, data management, and integration.Cartographic design principles.Programming languages.SkillsStrong organizational and time management skills.Complex problem solving and critical thinkingActive listening.Coordinating multiple projects with various departments.Proficient in analytical software programsExperience integrating GIS with permitting, assessing, or public works software.Experience with utility or asset management GIS systemsProficient use of computers and computer programs such as the Microsoft Suite of programs.Abilities toProfessionally communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing.Analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and adopt effective solutions.Ability to interpret engineering plans, zoning maps, and legal descriptions.Effective interpersonal and public relation skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, government officials, and other professionalsOrganize own work, coordinate projects, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.Interact with the public, peers, and superiors in a tactful and courteous manner. #J-18808-Ljbffr Priority Dispatch Corp.
