Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Tidelands Health are seeking a skilled Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join their team of Advanced Practice Providers. This role is a PRN position within MUSC Health and practices within the Tidelands Health system to serve Georgetown and Horry Counties, the second fastest growing region in the country. Candidates will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services for patients in Georgetown and Horry Counties.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

• FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Eligible for South Carolina licensure

2 years of Emergency Room Experience as an APP or graduation from an Emergency Room Fellowship. If APRN, 4 years as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in an Adult Emergency Department.

Position Highlights:

• Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
• Strong clinical and interpersonal skills
• Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
• Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
• Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
• Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief:
• Administration of Local and Digital Anesthesia
• Complicated and Uncomplicated Repair of Lacerations
• Removal of Foreign Bodies from Eyes, Ears, Nose, Skin, and Wounds
• Trepination of Subungual Hematomas
• Incision and Drainage of Abscesses
• Urethral Catheterization
• Placement of Peripheral Venous Access
• Placement of Central Lines [with proof of competency]
• Placement of Thoracostomy
• Endotracheal Intubation [with proof of competency]
• ACLS
• Arterial Puncture
• Venipuncture
• Lumbar Puncture [with proof of competency]
• Application of Splints
• Arthrocentesis
• Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
• Documents and bills for direct care provided
• Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
• Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
• Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
• Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
• Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
• APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
