We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to support program administration in Kansas City, Missouri through a Contract position. This role focuses on reviewing financial and eligibility information, assisting participants and landlords with program-related questions, and keeping case records accurate and up to date. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling calculations, documentation, and confidential information in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities: • Respond to participant and landlord questions about program procedures, recertification steps, and eligibility guidelines, or direct inquiries to the appropriate team member when needed. • Coordinate appointments and conduct participant interviews to gather household, income, asset, and expense details for annual and interim reviews. • Review documentation to assess continued eligibility for assistance, including household qualifications, unit compliance, and owner participation requirements. • Calculate income, deductions, rent portions, and housing assistance amounts using verified financial information and established program rules. • Support background screening, final verification activities, and the collection of recertification or transfer documents for move-ins and ongoing assistance. • Prepare lease-related and occupancy materials, examine contracts and leases for accuracy, and help explain lease obligations to new tenants. • Maintain complete case files by updating participant records, processing move-in and move-out information, and documenting contract terminations or assistance changes. • Prepare notices, forms, desk audit reports, and other required records accurately and on schedule while preserving the confidentiality of sensitive information. • Monitor applicant files, refresh pending tenant information, and inactivate records when applicants do not respond within required timeframes. • Stay current on applicable housing regulations, agency policies, and local, state, and federal requirements to support compliant program administration. • Experience supporting accounting, housing administration, case processing, or a similar detail-focused office function. • Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, ledger activity, and data entry practices. • Ability to calculate income, assets, expenses, deductions, and other figures with a high degree of accuracy. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard office applications used for recordkeeping and reporting. • Strong written and verbal communication skills for assisting participants, landlords, and internal staff professionally. • Ability to manage confidential files and sensitive information with discretion and care. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple files, deadlines, and follow-up tasks effectively.
