Current MI State teaching certificate required. Integrated Science or Broad Field Science -DI or DX endorsement is preferred Teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred. Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing engaging, standards-aligned science instruction for middle school students. The teacher creates a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of the scientific world. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for student learning and academic achievement. Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment. Plan and implement engaging, standards-based instruction using best instructional practices that promote literacy and critical thinking. Instruct students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional student needs. Manage classroom routines and student behavior to maximize instructional time. Develop positive relationships with students, parents, and the school community that enhance learning. Communicate effectively with parents regarding student achievement, attendance, and behavior. Utilize formative and summative assessment data to drive instructional decisions and improve student outcomes. Collaborate with special education staff, interventionists, counselors, and administration to support individual student success. Participate in curriculum development, alignment, and continuous improvement efforts. Incorporate educational technology to enhance student engagement and learning. Attend staff meetings, department meetings, and district professional development activities. Maintain complete and accurate student records, grades, and academic documentation. Order, organize, and maintain classroom instructional materials, textbooks, and equipment. Continue to improve professional knowledge and instructional practices. Follow directives from the building principal. Model intellectual curiosity, professionalism, integrity, self-motivation, and lifelong learning for students. Comply with School Board policies and all state and federal regulations. Contribute to the district’s success by taking on additional responsibilities as needed. ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
