Health and Safety Specialist

Position Summary The Health & Safety Specialist provides site level support for driving safety excellence. This position focuses on implementation of effective management systems that assure regulatory compliance, management of HSE programs, achievement of performance excellence at the operating level, and support of a mature HSE culture through systematic processes. Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrate a strong commitment to HSE excellence and a passion for occupational safety. Lead by example and engage and inspire employees daily to work safely and look out for their co‑workers' well‑being. Develop and support the implementation of HSE programs and practices consistent with regulatory and corporate requirements. Provide expert technical support across the organization. Assist in establishing vision, goals, objectives, and targets for HSE performance; assist in developing quality metrics to drive performance improvement. Provide hands‑on technical involvement on issues, programs, and processes involving compliance with HSE standards and policies. Maintain and improve site HSE Management System in accordance with Responsible Care 14001 standards. Support Industrial Hygiene Programs including personnel & area sampling, PPE selection and compliance, hazard communication, chemical approvals, and training. Participate in HSE activities and teams to improve and drive HSE maturity level via continuous improvement. Engage in HSE programs by spending time in operating areas daily. Manage site loss prevention programs. Participate in development, implementation, and verification of the site’s compliance training programs. Assist and support operating areas on a 24/7 basis as needed (e.g., plant night rounds). Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field OR minimum of 2 years progressive experience in occupational safety, health, or process safety, preferably within chemical manufacturing or construction environments. Understanding of occupational health and safety standards, including applicable NFPA and OSHA regulations. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Emergency response training, EMT certification, or prior experience in industrial or site security is highly desired. Pay and Benefits Expected base pay: $95,000 – $142,600.
