iMAC Data Centre Engineer (Ad Hoc/ On Call)

The Data Centre IMAC Engineer will work as part of a team within the Data Centre Operations division to deliver support activities and input to project related tasks within the Data Centre and ensure that all work carried out complies with agreed standards.

The DC IMAC Engineer will provide an operational interface to physical security teams assisting in the proactive management of the site's security. Providing an interface to the customer, advising them of any operational issues with the infrastructure and acting as a point of contact to address the customer requirements including being first line of support for incident and recovery duties, contribution to BAU and project activity to rack, install and decommission devices.

Engineers to work within a team carrying out cabling infrastructure and network hardware support at Onnec client sites. The work will include all types of patching, break-fix, circuit provision and recovery, disconnect/reconnect of desktop and networking equipment, rack, and stack of Data Centre Hardware (e.g. Server, Network and Storage) and provision of connectivity to DC Hardware. The position will be site based as required and reports to the Service Delivery Manager.

For this role candidates will need to:

• Be able to work on multiple client sites across allocated regions.
• Please note that this is a part-time, on-call/ad hoc position and availability will vary due to the nature of this role and hours can change and vary as required by project works.

What you'll be doing as our iMAC Data Centre Engineer:

• Hardware Installs, Moves & Changes, and Decommissions: working in conjunction with the central service desk, the engineer(s) will deploy, change, and decommission client hardware (server / network etc.) assets in line with defined policies and procedures. This includes configuration, testing and preparing / confirming operational readiness for installs and changes as well as maintaining system documentation and relative ITSM system records for all activities.

• IT Logistics & Media Handling: The Data Centre Operations team have responsibility for the management and execution of shipping and receiving of hardware and data assets; maintaining storage and staging locations, inspecting, and tagging devices and managing the respective systems relating to any movement or change in status. The engineers / team will also document the storage of any locally defined store locations identifying new vs recycled equipment stores. The engineers are responsible for media / tape handling and data wiping processes in line with the client's defined processes.

• Data Centre Audits: The Data Centre Operations engineers are responsible for the undertaking of data quality and accuracy audits. Checking physical assets against core information systems and recording any found discrepancies. The team also undertake periodic audits of hardware devices as part of preventative maintenance program to identify faults or issues in the DC space.

• Visitor Escorting: The engineers are required to support our client in escorting any visitors requiring access to the secure Data Centre spaces ensuring the requisite conditions for access are met and follow Data Centre processes and procedures.

• General DC Operations and Support: As well as the above core activities, the DC engineer team will provide support for a wide range of Data Centre activities to drive forward client and internal business deliverables.

Key Responsiblities

• Monitor the client's ticket system and ensure tickets are assigned and completed within SLA.
• Audit and document existing cabling installations.
• Audit and document desktop configuration, including patching and power, for existing and proposed user locations.
• Compile patching schedules as required.
• Utilise Cable Management Software as required for patching planning.
• Power down and disconnect all desktop equipment including any peripherals ensuring all identified and labelled correctly ready for reconnection.
• iMAC-D of all desktop equipment including any peripherals.
• Carry Out Data Wiping activities by use of Software tools.
• Carry out all types of patching / jumpering including all types of voice & data, copper & fibre.
• Carry out testing and fault finding on Copper and Fibre Cabling Infrastructure (including ISDN Line Tests) using a variety of modern testers to include continuity testers, tone generators and modern cabling standards testers.
• Carry out all types of Copper Voice and Data terminations as required by the Onnec portfolio of cabling systems.
• Maintain accurate records of all stock delivered and update as stock is used and advise line manager of any requirements, shortfalls.
• Carry out surveys and update drawings and schedules.
• Install and test analogue, digital and VOIP telephone handsets and provide headset support as required.
• Build, Rack and Stack Network and Server hardware in Data Centre Halls and provide connectivity.
• Perform Network Hardware break-fix activities e.g. replacing power supplies, modules, fans etc.

What we're looking for in our iMAC Data Centre Engineer:

• Experience of working in Voice and Data Cabling environment
• Experience of Moves Adds and Changes environment.
• Thorough understanding of modern computer network infrastructure
• Thorough understanding and practical experience of fibre and copper voice and data cabling including terminating, test equipment, test parameters and test techniques.
• Knowledge of Rack and Stack of Server Hardware and Rack and Stack Systems
• Good knowledge of Service Now (and other Process and Asset Management Tools)
• Good knowledge of Server Patching
• Knowledge of LAN / WAN and Active devices
• Able to use all types of Modern Handheld Cable Standards Testers
• Able to use light Source and Power Meter
• Experience of working in banking IT environment.
• Experience in structured cabling installation, fault finding and testing with fluke test equipment.
• Thorough knowledge of structured cabling standards and cable types (FTP, UTP & Optical Fibre)
• Excellent MS Office Suite experience (Outlook, Excel, Word etc)
• Extensive knowledge of Asset Management and DCIM systems
• Extensive knowledge of ITSM Ticketing Systems
• Extensive understanding of complex change management and service delivery processes.
