Position Overview As a Lead Counselor, you will provide leadership for other counselors, manage your individual caseload, participate in facility committees, and perform other management duties as directed by the Clinical Supervisor/Clinical Director. You will also assist in problem‑solving, conflict resolution, readiness for state and CARF visits, and other assigned tasks. Key Responsibilities Ensure completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other documentation per federal and state standards. Educate patients on program objectives, rules, sanctions, hours of service, and rights. Assess and place patients according to treatment phases in accordance with standards. Maintain updated clinical documentation and patient charts. Counsel patients in crisis, identify resources, and facilitate resolution. Counsel patients refusing compliance to increase awareness of non‑compliance consequences. Coordinate referrals to community agencies and resources. Conduct treatment plan reviews. Participate in case conferences and reviews. Sign off on counselor documentation as directed. Assist in overall direction and development of substance abuse services. Participate in treatment team meetings and grievance hearings. Lead or assist weekly staff meetings. Review counselor case files for compliance with federal, state, and PTC requirements. Assist in annual performance reviews of counseling staff. Support Clinical Supervisor in state and CARF inspections, staff meetings, and other duties. Provide in‑service training to clinical teammates. Regularly monitor clinical records for compliance and conduct mock inspections. Perform intakes on new patients. Develop preliminary and comprehensive treatment plans. Provide training and technical assistance to community agencies as requested. Guide counselors in managing difficult or complex patients. Maintain accurate case files per requirements. Oversee counseling case assignments and discharges. Attend team meetings and complete required training on time. Attend ongoing training per program, federal, and state requirements. Other duties as assigned. Pay Range $27,000 – $31,000 per year. Qualifications Certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor with a California‑approved certification agency, or licensure/eligibility with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology. If license‑eligible, maintain Board requirements including required clinical supervision. Proof of licensure or certification by a state‑approved regulatory agency required immediately upon employment. Expertise in evaluation of patients, treatment planning, and counseling services. Knowledge of illicit drug use and its treatment. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Professional demeanor and customer‑service orientation. Competence with Microsoft Office programs. Preferred Demonstrated leadership qualities within the counseling team.
