Assistant Program Coordinator Are you looking to take the next step in your outdoor education career? Outdoor Classroom is in search of a seasonal Assistant Program Coordinator for our residential outdoor education program. This key role will oversee day-to-day operations, including program planning, staff supervision, and liaison with partnered schools. The Assistant Program Coordinator (APC) is responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator (PC) in administrative tasks throughout the season. The position is a true administrative position, and APCs only teach on an as-needed basis. The APC is also responsible for working with the PC to train and support the outdoor education instructors. Who we are We're the largest outdoor and environmental education program in the northeastern US. We specialize in experiential learning, focusing on science, nature, and social-emotional skills. We provide engaging and transformative programming for elementary and middle school students who join us for overnight field trips. Each spring and fall, we welcome hundreds of schools to our seven spectacular sites. Responsibilities Assisting the PC in contacting schools and creating schedules. Run programming when the PC is away. Be in charge of a school, or a portion of the school, when there are multiple schools or a large school on site. When in charge of a school(s), the APC will be responsible for handling all aspects of programming (communicating with schools, overseeing programming, supervising staff, etc). Help to set up class/evening activity supplies for instructors and support them in being prepared for what’s ahead. Assist in staff training by helping create the training schedule, teaching classes, and leading training sessions. Collaborate with instructors to address student needs. Keep a running list of resource day ideas and assign resource tasks to staff as needed. Act as a role model for staff. Support instructors, and give informal feedback when appropriate. Observe instructors teach when necessary. Help with curriculum enhancements and improvements. Assist in other administrative duties as assigned by the PC, which may include emailing or calling schools, communicating with the host site, managing budget etc. Required to live on-site during the program season. Please note that assigned tasks may vary depending on location of site, size and number of schools on site in a week, the PC and APC’s particular strengths and passions. Our available locations Freedom, NH; Ivoryton, CT; and Lakeside, CT Salary & benefits The starting salary for this seasonal role is $800 per week. We provide shared accommodations for the season. Meals are provided by the dining hall when schools are on-site. Food on weekends is supplemented through a stipend for the whole staff team. As housing is shared, please note that pets and emotional support animals are not allowed. We also offer mileage reimbursement for work-related travel. Dates This is a seasonal position for the fall. Staff training starts on August 31 and the season ends in October or November (depending on location). There is the opportunity to return for the spring season as well. Qualifications The ideal candidate should have a minimum of one year of youth work experience, preferably in an outdoor setting such as a summer camp or outdoor education program. We highly value candidates who exhibit a great attitude and enjoy teamwork. The ability to navigate uneven terrain quickly to respond to emergencies is also required.
