This role involves collaboration within the surgical oncology department alongside fellow cancer surgeons, including those specialized in colorectal, breast, gynecologic, and advanced foregut minimally invasive surgery.

This dynamic practice offers a diverse caseload, with approximately 50-75% focused on surgical oncology and 25-50% on complex benign general surgery. The primary focus will be on minimally invasive techniques, robotics, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy, utilizing a range of cutting-edge surgical equipment and methodologies, including robotic, endoscopic, and advanced laparoscopic procedures.

The surgical oncology department is integrated into the organization’s accredited oncology program, fostering strong relationships with medical and radiation oncology teams. The region's only Level II Trauma Center, featuring 387 beds, boasts a state-of-the-art digital infrastructure and innovative technologies, including advanced imaging and award-winning clinical services.

Position Overview

This full-time Surgical Oncology/Hepato-biliary role follows a traditional workweek, Monday through Friday, with a minimum of 32 hours dedicated to patient interactions, including clinic visits, procedures, and consultations. The call schedule is 1:6, with no unattached emergency room calls or acute care general surgery duties.

• Collaboration with specialists in Cardiology, Neurology, Neuro Critical Care, Wound & Hyperbaric Medicine.
• Comprehensive inpatient services including ED, SICU, Medical ICU, CVICU, NICU, Hospitalist, Diabetes, Inpatient Pain, and Palliative Care.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
• Completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA general surgery residency program.
• Board certification from the American Board of Surgery (ABS) or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery (AOBS), or the ability to obtain certification within three years of employment.
• Completion of a Surgical Oncology or Hepato-Biliary fellowship.
• Experience in open, minimally invasive, and robotic surgical techniques for treating hepatobiliary, pancreatic, esophageal, gastric, adrenal, and colorectal cancers.
• Ability to perform both basic and complex advanced general surgical procedures.
• A collaborative leadership style to support team-building within the oncology and surgical programs, ensuring compliance with the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
• Eligibility for Idaho medical licensure and privileges at SARMC and affiliated hospitals; valid controlled substance registration with the Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
