Field Service Engineer, Robotic Lab Automation Systems
Pave Talent
, $ $ , , - .
When a lab's automated system goes down, patient results wait. You get it back online.
Pave Talent is hiring on behalf of our client, a global manufacturer of microbiology specimen collection products and full lab automation systems. Their US service team is lean, so every engineer owns customer relationships from day one.
- Technicians who explain a fix to a lab manager as clearly as they diagnose it
- People who move with urgency when a lab is waiting on a down system
- Problem solvers who stay calm when the answer is not in the manual
- Road-ready engineers who like a different site most days and a hotel some nights
If you want one site, home every night, or a fixed Monday to Friday schedule, this is not your role.
You will be a Field Service Engineer based in the Chicago area, reporting to a Regional Service Manager and covering hospital and reference labs across a regional territory. Expect about 75% travel, often on short notice, on equipment that combines robotics, electronics, and precision mechanics.
- Install and inspect new automated microbiology systems at customer labs
- Run preventive maintenance (PM), calibrations, and electrical safety tests (EST)
- Troubleshoot and repair robotic, electronic, and mechanical faults
- Read instrument schematics to trace problems to the component level
- Train lab staff on correct operation and daily care
- Document every service visit to manufacturer standards
Training is hands-on and fast. You shadow first, then run your own calls early. The hiring team keeps the electrical bar clear: "basic level knowledge is good." Know voltage, current, and resistance, and identify standard components. How you communicate with customers is what sets hires apart.
:

- Able to travel about 75% on short notice, work some weekends and holidays, and lift up to 75 lbs
- Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
:
- Field service on lab, medical, or diagnostic equipment
- Biomedical equipment technician (BMET) background
- Programmable logic controller (PLC), robotics, or automation experience
