Psychiatric RN

Job Summary:

The Behavioral Psych Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care on the Geropsychiatric Unit, focusing on assessing, monitoring, and managing mental and physical health of patients. The RN collaborates with a multidisciplinary treatment team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, administer medications and treatments, conduct therapies, and ensure quality patient care. Strong communication, documentation, and coordination skills are essential to support patient recovery and discharge planning in a psychiatric care environment. Responsibilities:

• Assess, monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patient conditions.
• Maintain accurate patient reports and medical histories.
• Perform mental and physical assessments and administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Assist patients with daily activities and observe their reactions.
• Manage therapeutic milieu activities including daily groups, patient education, and one-on-one interactions.
• Collaborate with physicians, multidisciplinary team members, and external health and social agencies.
• Complete individualized treatment plans upon admission and ongoing updates with the treatment team.
• Plan, implement, and coordinate nursing care activities tailored to patient diagnoses and needs.
• Prepare efficient discharge plans and obtain accurate patient histories at admission.
• Complete all required documentation such as admission paperwork, assessments, progress notes, interventions, evaluations, discharge paperwork, and CQI+ data in a timely manner.
• Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Hampshire.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience preferred.
• 2-year Associate degree or diploma from a 3-year nursing program required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Proficiency in medical terminology.
• Excellent mathematical, analytical, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
• Experience in psychiatric or geropsychiatric nursing preferred.

Special Considerations:

• Work is performed in a geropsychiatric unit requiring adherence to therapeutic standards and patient safety protocols.
• Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and external agencies is critical.
• Role involves managing mental health crises and complex patient behaviors.

Scheduling:

• Night shift schedule.
• Shift assignments determined by unit staffing needs.
