Position Overview If you enjoy working on trucks, installing accessories, solving mechanical problems, and seeing the results of your work every day, this could be a great fit for you. The Fleet Upfit Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining ARI's fleet of pickup trucks so they are safe, reliable, and ready to support field operations throughout the western United States. Primary responsibilities include installing equipment and accessories, completing truck upfits, performing preventative maintenance, and handling light mechanical repairs. Working closely with the Fleet Operations Coordinator and Field Service Director, this position plays a key role in outfitting new vehicles, improving existing equipment, and keeping ARI's fleet operating safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and has experience performing maintenance on pickup trucks or similar vehicles, basic fabrication skills, and light automotive electrical experience, such as installing accessories, lighting, wiring, or other vehicle equipment. What a Typical Week Looks Like No two days are exactly alike, but your work will generally be focused in the following areas: 50% | Fleet Upfitting Build and prepare new fleet vehicles for service by installing specialized equipment, electrical accessories, hydraulic components, storage systems, and other custom vehicle enhancements. 30% | Fleet Maintenance Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and mechanical repairs to keep ARI's fleet operating safely, efficiently, and ready for the field. 10% | Electrical & Hydraulic Systems Install, troubleshoot, and repair vehicle electrical, lighting, battery, and hydraulic systems that support specialized fleet equipment. 10% | Diagnostics & Continuous Improvement Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues while identifying opportunities to improve the safety, reliability, and functionality of ARI's fleet. Schedule Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 4:00pm. Additional hours, overtime, and occasional weekend work may be required based on fleet needs and business demands. Work Location This position is currently based out of ARI's satellite shop facility in South Eugene. Due to evolving operational needs and facility requirements, the primary work location may change in the future but will remain within the greater Eugene/Springfield area. Compensation $28.00-$35.00/hour per year depending on experience and qualifications. Full Benefits package available for full-time employees. Job Requirements/ Qualifications Education & Training: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training in automotive technology, fabrication, electrical systems, or a related mechanical trade is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Experience: Experience maintaining pickup trucks or similar vehicles is required. Experience with vehicle upfits, basic fabrication, and light automotive electrical work (such as installing accessories, lighting, wiring, or other vehicle equipment) is also required. Mechanical Aptitude: Working knowledge of preventative maintenance, brakes, steering, suspension, and general vehicle repair. Experience with trailers and light-duty fleet equipment is a plus. Technical Ability: Ability to read installation instructions, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications. Driver's License: Valid driver's license with no more than three moving violations and/or chargeable accidents within the past three years and no DUII convictions. Background Check: Must successfully pass a background check through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in accordance with federal regulations. Pre-Employment Drug Test & Physical: Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and physical is required. ARI also conducts random drug testing and post-accident testing as part of its commitment to maintaining a safe workplace. Safety Awareness: Demonstrates a strong commitment to safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and company safety standards. Job Responsibilities Fleet Vehicle Upfitting: Build, install, and integrate custom components on company pickup trucks, service vehicles, and specialty fleet vehicles, including lift kits, suspension systems, service bodies, toolboxes, lighting, electrical accessories, hydraulic components, communication equipment, safety equipment, and other vehicle enhancements to support field operations. Fabrication & Component Installation: Perform light fabrication and install, modify, and fit brackets, mounts, racks, and other custom components to support vehicle upfits and equipment installations. Electrical & Hydraulic Systems: Install, troubleshoot, and repair vehicle electrical systems, auxiliary power systems, hydraulic components, lighting, and aftermarket accessories. Fleet Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on company pickup trucks, service vehicles, commercial vehicles, and fleet equipment to maximize reliability, minimize downtime, and support safe field operations. Mechanical Repairs & Troubleshooting: Perform routine mechanical repairs and troubleshoot gasoline- and diesel-powered fleet vehicles, including steering, suspension, braking, driveline, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Maintenance Documentation: Complete work orders, inspection reports, service records, and maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Repair & Parts Coordination: Communicate repair recommendations, maintenance schedules, and parts requirements to the Fleet Operations Coordinator and Field Service Director. Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers to support repairs, warranty work, and parts procurement. Shop Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment, including proper care of tools, equipment, and work areas. Safety Commitment: Maintain a safety-first mindset and consistently follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the Fleet Operations team and ARI.
