Job Description
The Pharmacist in Charge oversees the day-to-day operations of a full-service pharmacy, ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medications while maintaining compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. This role manages pharmacy staff, inventory, and workflow, collaborates closely with healthcare providers, and provides direct patient counseling to support optimal health outcomes. The position also plays a key leadership role in developing policies and procedures, driving operational excellence, and maintaining high levels of patient and provider satisfaction.
Responsibilities

• Oversee daily pharmacy operations, including prescription processing, medication dispensing, data entry, and maintenance of accurate documentation and records.
• Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure full compliance with all relevant state and federal laws, regulations, and industry standards.
• Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support personnel.
• Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations to pharmacy staff to support professional growth and high-quality service.
• Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork, communication, and mutual respect.
• Monitor pharmacy workflow to optimize efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure timely service for patients and providers.
• Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering medications and supplies, monitoring stock levels, and minimizing waste.
• Implement strategies to optimize inventory turnover and reduce costs while maintaining adequate stock to meet patient and provider needs.
• Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts to reconcile discrepancies, ensure accuracy, and maintain regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to support safe, effective medication therapy and optimize patient outcomes.
• Counsel patients on their medications, including proper dosage, administration instructions, potential side effects, and drug interactions that may negatively impact their health.
• Investigate, document, and address medication incidents or errors, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence and promote patient safety.
• Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction by providing responsive, professional service to patients and healthcare providers.
• Communicate potential risks, operational issues, and safety concerns clearly and promptly to leadership.
• Maintain strong relationships with client partners and meet as needed to review performance, address concerns, and ensure operational excellence.
• Oversee mail order pharmacy services as part of the overall pharmacy operation, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
• Effectively manage and coordinate the work of one pharmacy technician and two PRN pharmacists who support coverage needs.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the pharmacy's mission and operational goals.

Essential Skills

• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
• Active state licensure as a pharmacist, with the ability to obtain licensure in multiple states including Texas, Mississippi, Washington, North Carolina, Maryland, and Tennessee.
• At least 2 years of experience in pharmacy management, with a focus on corporate or multisite settings.
• Strong in retail pharmacy operations (retail experience is required).
• Proficiency in pharmacy data entry and prescription processing systems.
• Solid clinical review skills to evaluate prescriptions for appropriateness, safety, and effectiveness.
• Thorough knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and industry standards.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and evaluate pharmacy staff.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, healthcare providers, staff, and leadership.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills to oversee multiple operational priorities.
• Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve medication-related issues and operational problems.
• Commitment to patient safety, quality of care, and high customer service standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) experience or familiarity with technician workflows.
• Experience in mail order pharmacy operations is a plus.
• Experience working in corporate or multisite pharmacy environments.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with healthcare providers and client partners.
• Skill in developing and refining policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance.
• Comfort with performing regular inventory audits, cycle counts, and reconciliation processes.
• Ability to adapt to changing operational needs and perform other job-related duties as required.
• Strong problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment in complex clinical and operational situations.

Work Environment
This is a full-time, onsite role in a full-service pharmacy that serves employees and their dependents, offering both traditional retail services and mail order options. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, providing a stable daytime workweek. The Pharmacist in Charge manages one pharmacy technician and two PRN pharmacists who support coverage needs. The environment is professional, patient-focused, and collaborative, with an emphasis on accuracy, safety, and efficient workflow. Operations are supported by standard pharmacy technology and systems for prescription processing, inventory management, and documentation. Dress code is professional and appropriate for a clinical pharmacy setting, reflecting a commitment to patient trust and quality care.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Orleans, LA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $150000.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
