Respiratory Care Practitioner (CRT)

Overview Provides respiratory therapy care for patients throughout the hospital. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) with a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential to join our patient‑centered clinical team. In this role, you will provide high‑quality respiratory care to patients across various age groups and acuity levels, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support optimal patient outcomes. Qualifications Education: Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Certificate of Completion in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC or CoARTE approved program. Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) – Illinois IDFPR; Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) – NBRC; Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA (within 30 days); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA (within 1 year); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – AAP (within 1 year); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA (within 1 year); Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) within 1 year. Work Experience: Respiratory therapy – 1+ year. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Basic English reading, writing, oral communication; ability to respond to customer/co‑worker, maintain confidentiality, project professional demeanor; basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, e‑mail, web browser) under Windows OS. Responsibilities Perform patient care activities including all forms of respiratory therapy and other assigned duties using applicable policies and procedures. Interpret and execute physician orders, individualize therapy, anticipate patient needs, calculate medication dosages, perform patient education. Document errors, use protective equipment, perform intubations and change tracheostomy tubes as assigned, practice good body mechanics. Remain alert, respond to alarms, call lights, follow hand washing and infection control procedures, maintain a clean work area, stock supplies, perform oxygen rounds. Respond to all pages and requests promptly, handle emergency situations and codes immediately, remain calm and effective during stress. Ensure patient safety by following policies and National Patient Safety Goals; perform bedside lab testing (ABGs) and quality control per provider orders and lab procedures. Manage ventilator: maintain knowledge of all modes, weaning modalities; respond to urgent needs; perform ventilator checks every 4 hours; set alarms; educate staff; document settings; act as patient advocate; collaborate on patient care issues. Maintain accurate documentation and computer entry for therapy, ventilator, oxygen; complete internal forms; maintain charge entry accuracy; maintain current credentials. Assume responsibility for ongoing professional growth: learn new equipment and procedures, maintain knowledge of policies, complete mandatory education, attend educational offerings, maintain license.
