Power Plant Engineer #2, 2nd Shift Job ID: 2026-35993 | Type: Full Time | Opening: 1 | Category: Facilities and Maintenance | Location: Saco, ME, US Job Summary This position offers an hourly rate of $35.41 per hour plus a 15% shift differential for 2nd shift. General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, Inc. (GD-OTS) seeks a Power Plant Engineer #2 for our Saco, ME operations, contributing to the mission of our warfighter. Responsibilities Start up, operate, and maintain air compressors and dryers used to supply air to manufacturing processes, auxiliary motors, equipment, pumps, etc. Maintain boiler room daily logs per log sheet requirements. Perform routine and annual boiler cleaning as applicable. Observe pressure, water, temperature, and fuel oil gauges during boiler room operations. Monitor air compressor output to maintain 95, give or take 5 lbs pressure for production processes. Complete daily functional safety checks. Verify operation of automatic combustion control systems and feedwater regulators. Maintain, troubleshoot, and program boiler room control for automatic sequencing. Enter predetermined parameters for boiler controls and sequencing. Keep, clean, and repair boiler burners and other fuel‑burning equipment. Turn valves and adjust controls to set specified fuel flows, tank suction, and return lines. Monitor and adjust feedwater flows as needed. Monitor and adjust condensate return flows and temperature as needed. Maintain steam pressure for proper heating and production processes. Observe operating equipment and auxiliary units for early detection of malfunctions and prompt repairs (predictive maintenance). Obtain daily samples of boiler and feed water for chemical testing. Use Bridge Meter to measure feed water conductivity. Add appropriate chemicals to maintain feed water specifications (polymer, dissolved solids, sulfite, alkalinity, pH, chloride, conductivity, hardness, iron). Operate chemical injection system feeding compounds and chemicals. Maintain daily records of feed water analysis, test results, and chemical treatments. Route steam from main header to supply plant demands, heat outside water storage, and oil storage during cold weather. Route steam flow to bypass during off‑peak load demands. Maintain bulk oil storage at 140 F to avoid congealing (No.‑6 oil will not pump below 100 F). Ensure boiler room dampers are operational for winter load. Verify proper operation of fire protection storage tank heater in winter. Follow lock‑out/tag‑out procedures for equipment repairs and shutdown. Comply with all EHS requirements for safety and PPE. Practice good housekeeping and safe work practices, ensuring safe and efficient boiler operations. Operate and maintain pressure vessels safely. Maintain operating parameters to meet Maine Air Permit compliance. Maintain logs required by the State of Maine and the EHS department. Work in high‑noise area due to operating equipment. May work weekends, holidays, irregular shifts, and perform stand‑by duties as required. Skills Licensed by the Maine State Bureau of Labor, Division of Boiler Inspectors as a High‑Pressure Boiler Operator or higher (required). Knowledge of power plant electrical control panels, switches, motors, air compressor cooling systems, fuel and water storage, transfer, and heating systems, equipment accessories (required). Understanding of boiler room system and rooftop cooling towers supplying chilled water to manufacturing processes. Knowledge of boiler emergencies and shutdown procedures, including low‑water cut‑out appliances. Knowledge of steam generation principles, operations, and safety procedures. Abilities High‑school diploma or GED required. Must be re‑certified every three years. Physical capacity: lift 35 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally. Independent in performing tasks. Basic computer skills; may need to enter and verify data into written forms or databases. May perform other duties as directed by supervision.
