This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced tax professional looking to transition from the demanding pace of public accounting into a key in-house tax role. This stable, privately owned, Denver-based oil and gas company is seeking a Tax Manager to join their team! This is mostly a remote role with only occasional in-office meetings. This is a hands-on role that includes a significant number of partnerships, S corporations, and individuals. The company has mostly non-operated, but some operated oil and gas holdings. The ideal candidate will be based in Colorado; however, the Company will consider highly qualified candidates located in other states with a strong oil and gas presence, such as Texas or Oklahoma. RESPONSIBILIES OF THE TAX MANAGER Support the transition of some tax compliance and planning from outside providers to an internal tax function, establishing appropriate processes, controls, documentation, and compliance calendars.Manage federal and multi-state tax compliance and planning for the Company and its related partnerships, S corporations, and other pass-through entities.Prepare and/or review tax returns, extensions, estimated payments, and related federal and state filings.Oversee tax matters specific to the oil and gas industry, including the treatment of revenues and expenses, acquisitions and dispositions, intangible drilling costs, depletion, depreciation, leasehold costs, and capital expenditures.Identify tax planning opportunities and provide guidance to management and ownership regarding tax strategies and technical tax matters.Partner closely with the accounting team on tax accounts, book-to-tax differences, supporting schedules, and other tax-related reporting.Monitor changes in federal and state tax laws and evaluate their impact on the Company and its owners.Manage tax notices, examinations, inquiries, and information requests and coordinate with outside tax advisors when specialized expertise is needed. Maintain appropriate documentation supporting the Company’s tax positions.Job RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS OF THE TAX MANAGER Bachelor’s degree in accounting.Master’s degree in taxation or LLM in Taxation preferred.CPA.6+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax environment.Strong technical knowledge of federal and state income taxation.Significant experience with partnership, S corporation, and individual taxation compliance and research.Strong understanding of pass-through entities, partnership allocations, and Schedules K-1.Some oil and gas industry tax experience highly preferred.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Self-starter.Highest level of honesty and integrity.
