Traffic Controller II The Traffic Controller II serves as a senior member of a two (2) person crew that rides in and works from a city vehicle with two-way radio and flashing light. Duties include: Analyzing, speaking-signaling, and precision work; creating and maintaining record of work activity. Operating hand-operated pole driver, "twister and puller" instrument, portable washing machine and hand tools to install, straighten, repair, replace and clean traffic signs. Obtaining permission from property owners to trim foliage causing possible traffic hazards. Overseeing and painting curbs with spray gun and hand paint brush. Assisting in setting up barricades for work zones and special events. Using silk screen method, spray gun, cutting plotter, engravers and hand brush, as applicable, to paint and create traffic and street signs. Must be able to use drafting instruments, draw numbers and letters, and cut them to prescribed size for affixing to signs. Performs other duties as required. Minimum qualifications include: High School Diploma or GED or the equivalent. Must possess a valid vehicle operator's license. Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to perform assigned tasks. Physical stamina; manual dexterity; eye-hand-foot coordination; spatial and form perception; ability and willingness to follow instructions. Preferred (2) two years' experience as Traffic Controller I. Ability to acquire, during working test (probationary) period, working knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highways Commission. Physical requirements include: Ability to climb ladders, reach, stoop, and kneel, all while lifting, carrying, pulling or pushing moderately heavy loads. Hand motions include grasping and turning. Requires the senses of touch, seeing, hearing, and speaking, all of which may be performed under difficult physical conditions. Requires color, sound, depth and visual perception and discrimination. Must communicate orally. Working conditions include: A significant portion of the work is performed in the field where exposure to electrical shock, traffic hazards, and variable weather conditions are common. As required, may be assigned to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. Work includes periodic standby duty assignments. Travel will be required locally from location to location to accomplish job assignments and visit job sites.
