Job Description Food Service Worker

Job Title: Child Nutrition/Food Service Worker Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Pay Grade: Greenville Salary Pay Scale Date Revised: December 2023

Reports to: Cafeteria Manager Calendar: 180

This position is funded by the Federal Program Grant. Positions funded in part by external grants will be reviewed by the District for viability in the absence of grant funds. If the position remains viable, in whole or in part, despite the loss of grant funds, the District, in its discretion, may reduce the position to less than full time. The decision to terminate or reduce a position is not grievable.

This is a federal program that is continually renewed based on the needs of the district.

Primary Purpose

Prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills

Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations

Continual standing, walking, pushing, and pulling Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (ladder) Moderate lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds Moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Food Preparation and Serving 1. Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes.

2. Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures. Follow required Food Safety Plan and Texas Nutrition Policy.

3. Practice and promote portion control and proper use of leftovers.

4. Supervise storage and handling of food items and supplies. Maintain a clean and organized storage area.

Safety and Sanitation 5. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.

6. Follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.

7. Follow required daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules. Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.

Human Resources - GISD

8. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.

9. Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.

Other 10. Help record food requisitions and order necessary supplies.

11. Maintain daily food preparation records.

12. Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members. Communicate with students, GISD staff, parents, and visitors in a positive professional manner.

Equipment Used

Large and small kitchen equipment, tools including electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, sharp cutting tools, oven, dishwasher, and food and utility cart.
