Position Summary
The Manager, Competitive Intelligence leads a team of Competitive Intelligence (CI) professionals delivering client, industry, market, and competitor research that powers Jenner & Block's business development and marketing initiatives. The ideal candidate brings 6+ years of progressive experience as a CI practitioner or translating business and market intelligence into actionable recommendations, with at least 1-2 years of team leadership. This is a role for someone equally at home managing complex and high-stakes research, advising key stakeholders on competitive positioning, and driving high-quality service delivery.This role may be filled in our Washington, D.C. or Chicago office. Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and location.
Essential Job Functions
Under the direction of the Associate Director, Competitive Intelligence, the Manager will:
- Serve as the primary intake point for internal stakeholders engaging CI for business development, strategy, and data projects; own end-to-end prioritization, scoping, and quality of CI deliverables.
- Translate stakeholder needs into CI deliverables that triangulate external market intelligence and internal business data to surface trends, opportunities, and risks across clients and industries.
- Produce consistently high-quality, analytically rigorous reports and presentations that meet standards for accuracy, clarity, ethics, and professional presentation.
- Create and maintain signal-to-insight pipelines for proactive / ongoing monitoring of clients, industries, and events; establish and maintain a regular cadence for CI insight distribution to relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain active relationships with internal and external subject matter experts and stakeholders to deepen perspectives on the market and competitive landscape.
- Lead, delegate, and manage team workflows; oversee quality control and timeliness of all deliverables.
- Set clear expectations, priorities, and individual development plans aligned with business needs and CI maturity goals.
- Recruit, onboard, and coach team members; provide input into performance management and talent decisions.
- Contribute to strategic planning and budgeting; report on ROI of CI programs through quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Participate in learning programs and orientation cycles for new attorneys and staff.
- Drive evaluation, adoption, and evolution of the CI tools stack for advanced analytics, workflow automation, and reporting; make recommendations aligned to strategic and operational needs.
- Lead identification and implementation of high-leverage CI process automation and measure resulting productivity gains.
- Manage vendor relationships, ensuring all vendor outputs are actionable, properly caveated, and fit for executive use.
- Assist with other firm initiatives as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree (Business, Analytics, Data Science, Marketing, or related field) a plus
- 6+ years of progressive experience emphasizing research, prospecting, and qualitative/quantitative analysis required
- 1-2+ years of team leadership or supervisory responsibility required
- Relevant backgrounds: law firm or marketing research (preferred), investment research, market research, business development research, business intelligence, executive search, economics, management consulting, top 4 accounting firm
- Well-versed in market and geopolitical trends
- Teaching ability preferred
Technical Skills
- Experience with AI, Business Intelligence, CI, and Market Intelligence platforms, including but not limited to: AlphaSense, Bloomberg Law, Capital IQ, Claude (or equivalent), InterAction, Lex Machina, LexisNexis, PitchBook, PowerBI (or equivalent), and Westlaw.
- Hands-on adopter of AI and automation tools; experience with AI specifically for CI work preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), including data visualization, pivot tables, and statistical analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complexity into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations for senior audiences.
- Experience working effectively in a highly matrixed, high volume, high pressure, and collaborative environment.

Jenner & Block is proud to offer a competitive total rewards package, including comprehensive health & well-being benefits and 401k profit sharing. The anticipated pay range for this role is $150,000 to $180,000 in Chicago or Washington DC. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on several factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
