About the Greater Manchester Region

This region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. Together, we serve a population of 300,000 across 19 towns.

Role Overview

As a Registered Nurse, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. Effective communication regarding the patient's clinical status is essential, as is the ability to respond promptly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession through supportive interactions and collegial relationships, reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Qualifications

• Education/Certification:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and possession of a current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut.
  • Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.
• Experience:
  • Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery settings, particularly assisting with C-sections, is mandatory.
• Competencies:
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, along with basic computer proficiency.

Job-Specific Competencies

• Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data for each surgical patient.
• Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their administration based on patient age and clinical condition, while following safety policies.
• Provide patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes, adhering to policies for patient identification and surgical procedures.
• Document nursing processes and patient responses promptly using appropriate tools.
• Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
• Practice autonomously in alignment with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
• Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to meet specific needs.
• Deliver accurate reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
• Prepare surgical rooms promptly with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment.
• Maintain aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures, identifying and addressing any breaches in technique.
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding the accounting of sponges, needles, and instruments, reporting discrepancies immediately.
• Handle, label, and process specimens accurately.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the scrub role.
