JOB TITLE: Dean of Students

FLSA: Exempt

SALARY SCHEDULE: TA

REPORTS TO: Principal

Terms of Employment:

1. Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan.
2. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

Qualifications:

1. Master's degree from an accredited educational institution with a major in Educational Administration or Instructional Leadership
2. Minimum of four years of successful teaching experience.
3. Certified (or eligible for a certificate) by the State of Alabama in the appropriate area.
4. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Knowledge Of:

1. Positive behavioral interventions and support
2. Creating and implementing student behavior expectations
3. Conflict resolution strategies
4. State policy and laws affecting the management of student behaviors and attendance

Ability To:

1. Build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and community members.
2. Collaborate and communicate effectively with key stakeholders through a variety of methods
3. Create and maintain a positive environment for all students
4. Facilitate the resolution of conflict and/or attendance issues
5. Plan, organize and manage time and resources

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manage and enforce school behavioral expectations, including attendance, to align with school-wide goals.
2. Confer with students, parents, and staff regarding student related policies, achievement, behavior, discipline, attendance, etc.
3. Assist staff with the creation and alignment of classroom student behavioral expectations and classroom management plans.
4. Build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and the community.
5. Create and coordinate education alternatives for students in need to enhance student character and improve discipline and attendance.
6. Communicate high expectations for students while being visible throughout the school.
7. Assist in planning, developing, and implementing student behavior and/or attendance plans.
8. Investigate disciplinary incidents and implement appropriate consequences and interventions.
9. Participate in leadership meetings, MTSS, and student support meetings to ensure consistency and transparency.
10. Collaborate with the school counselor and personnel to create and maintain research-based behavioral interventions and train faculty and staff in those interventions.
11. Manage the documentation of student behavior and/or attendance through the student management system.
12. Attend appropriate meetings regarding student growth and success (IEP and 504 case conferences, parent meetings, expulsion hearings, early warning, truancy court, etc).
13. Collaborate with administrators on school safety, discipline, attendance, and crisis response procedures.
14. Supervise students as needed (ex. Lunch, transitions, school events, dropoff, pickup, etc.)
15. Compile, analyze, and share student discipline and/or attendance data regularly, and use that data to make decisions
16. Assume other reasonable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
