APP Fellow - (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) - Hematology Oncology - MUSCP

Job Description Summary This one-year fellowship focuses on clinical experiences as well as a robust didactic curriculum, to provide well-rounded education intended to fully prepare a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a full‑time position in Hematology Oncology. Ideal candidates are new or seeking a specialty change and will be exposed to multiple disease processes with monthly rotations in Malignant Hematology, Oncology, Bone and Marrow Transplant, Classical Hematology, Infusion, and elective opportunities. Fellows will learn and complete competencies on procedures such as bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures, participate in weekly lectures including grand rounds, and complete an end‑of‑year project. Fellows are supported by APPs, mentors, physician fellows, and leaders in each department. Schedule Extended clinical schedule with additional didactic requirements. Weekly hours: 40. Scheduled work hours: October 2026 through September 2027. Shift: Day, with some additional clinical and academic requirements determined by the Fellowship Director and approved by the department. Patient Population Focus: Hollings Cancer Center. Age range: 13 years to death. Required Minimum Training and Experience Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant, OR completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN. Credentials recognized as AGPNP/ANP or FNP. No prior experience required. Preferred Training and Experience AGACNP/ACNP (Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) for acute care settings. Degree of Supervision Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant is assigned a primary supervising/collaborating physician employed by MUSC and reports directly to that physician, the APP Manager, and the APP Fellowship Director. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations Basic Life Support (BLS) All other certifications must be current and completed prior to the start date. Where applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to the first day. Job Duties Provides direct care: takes comprehensive histories, performs physical examinations, evaluates and treats based on history, exam, and diagnostic results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline. Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges approved by the Clinical Division Chief. Initiates referrals or consults with attending or collaborating physicians. Documents and bills for direct care provided. Utilizes current research and evidence‑based decision‑making in all clinical practice. Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research. Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization. Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education. Attends education and academic sessions as determined by the APP Fellowship Coordinator or Director. Completes presentations, lectures, QI projects, or other academic requirements as set by the MUSC APP Fellowship Director or department. Participates in required MUSC APP Fellowship activities and in weekly tumor boards and team meetings. Maintains licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc., as required by applicable policies and state law. Physical Requirements Continuous performance of job functions while standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders; qualify physically for respirator use; maintain 20/40 corrected vision; work in a latex‑safe environment indoors; frequently lift, lower, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted; exert up to 50 lbs of force; lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs; and work infrequently in dusty areas and confined spaces.
