The Role and Why It's Important

Our Market Grille Cooks are the backbone of one of the most dynamic departments in the store, preparing fresh, delicious food that keeps customers coming back. In this role, you'll be responsible for hot and cold menu items from prep to plate, making sure the food case is always stocked and every order is made with care.

What You'll Do

No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive one
  
• Prepare cooking surfaces and all menu items including vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods, and heat-and-eat varieties
  
• Place food in hot cases, monitor amounts, and refill as necessary throughout your shift
  
• Stay knowledgeable of all menu items and take guest orders as needed
  
• Prepare items for upcoming shifts to keep the department running smoothly
  
• Maintain a thorough understanding of all aspects of the Market Grille operation
  
• Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep your work area clean and organized at all times
  
• Order product and supplies as needed or notify department managers of any needs
  
• Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
  
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
  
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
  
• Report to work when scheduled and on time

• Solve practical problems and interpret instructions across a variety of situations
  
• Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately
  
• Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing
  
• Work effectively as part of a team to deliver quality food and a great customer experience
  

Reporting Relationships

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Manager; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required
  
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; we will provide all the training you need to succeed
  

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
  
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
  
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
  
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
  
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
  

Working Environment

This is a fast-paced kitchen environment where you'll be on your feet throughout your shift. You'll regularly work in both warm and cool conditions with exposure to dampness, equipment noise and vibrations, possible equipment movement hazards, and daily exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.

The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience.
