Apprentice Technician Positions

Apprentice - $18.08 per hour The purpose of the class is to learn to maintain Lift Stations. The class is responsible for learning to schedule and/or perform preventive maintenance, installations, repairs, and reports. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed under general supervision. Weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required, as well as after-hours response and emergencies.

Technician "C" - $21.14 per hour This class should have a general knowledge of scheduling and performing preventive maintenance, installations, repairs, and reports. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed; follow work methods and sequences under general supervision. Weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required, as well as after-hours response and emergencies.

Technician "B" - $22.87 per hour This class should have thorough knowledge of scheduling and performing preventive maintenance, installations, repairs, and reports. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Weekend, holiday and after-hours work may be required, as well as after-hours response and emergencies.

Technician "A" - $25.72 per hour This class is responsible for overseeing scheduling or performing preventive maintenance, installations, repairs, and reports. This class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences.

Apprentice Essential Job Functions

• Learns how to troubleshoot Lift Station malfunctions and performs repairs.
• Learns how to removes and replaces equipment or components; installs new equipment or components.
• Maintains lift station facility and grounds including mowing grass, cleaning area of trash and debris, and other maintenance.
• Learns how to evaluate system readings, run time meter readings.
• Monitors condition of vehicles assigned; performs minor maintenance and service; reports major malfunctions to supervisor.
• Attends division staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical classes to improve technical skills.
• This position is subject to assigned on call rotation.

Technician "C" Essential Job Functions

• Performs preventive maintenance on Lift Station piping, systems, and equipment in accordance with prescribed schedules.
• Troubleshoots Lift Station malfunctions and repairs; reports major malfunctions to supervisor for further action.
• Must verify equipment operation through the SCADA system controller.
• Removes and replaces equipment or components; installs new equipment or components.
• Maintains lift station facility and grounds including mowing grass, cleaning area of trash and debris, and other maintenance.
• Assist plant/facility maintenance staff in assigned duties.
• Evaluate system readings, run time meter readings and take appropriate action as necessary.
• Maintains logs of maintenance actions and turn in completed work orders.
• Monitors condition of vehicles assigned; performs minor maintenance and service; reports major malfunctions to supervisor.
• Attends division staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical classes to improve technical skills.
• This position is subject to assigned on call rotation.

Technician "B" Essential Job Functions

• Performs routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, phoning, and copying.
• This position is subject to assigned on call rotation.

Technician "A" Essential Job Functions

• Attends all staff meetings as required to exchange information; attends in-service training and technical classes to improve technical skills.
• Performs office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, phoning, copying, and timesheets.
• Review timesheets for correct input.
• Setup performance plans as required.
• Monitor and complete employee evaluations as required.
• Develop and implement new procedures as necessary.
• This position is subject to assigned on call rotation.

Minimum Requirements

Apprentice Requires a high school diploma or equivalent at time of hire. TTC approved certification within 18 months of hire (City can provide training, but preferred at time of hire). Confined Space Entry Certification within 18 months of hire (City can provide training, but preferred at time of hire). Must obtain a Class C Wastewater Collections Certification within 18 months of hire. Employee must live within a 20-mile radius of the city limits of Leesburg due to on-call rotation requirement.

Each level below requires a high school, GED, and formal training, special courses, or self-educated equivalent to satisfying completion of one year of college educated or specialized advanced training in Wastewater Collections. Must live within a 20-mile radius of the city limits of Leesburg due to on-call rotation requirement. May mentor and assist in training of less experienced operations staff. Maintain compliance using experience and best management practices. Minimum requirements are as follows: Technician "C" Requires 2080 hours of experience in wastewater and/or Lift Stations. Minimum one year of mechanical maintenance experience. Minimum one year of experience in troubleshooting electrical controls type problems and working with electrical components i.e. starters, relays, phase monitors, etc. Requires Confined Space Entry Competency Training Certificate. Requires Wastewater Collection Certificate C. Requires MOT approved certification. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Technician "B" Requires 6,240 hours of experience in wastewater and/or Lift Stations. Minimum three years or more of mechanical maintenance experience. Minimum three years or more experience in troubleshooting electrical controls type problems and working with electrical components i.e. starters, relays, phase monitors, etc. Requires Confined Space Entry Competency Training. Requires MOT approved certification. Requires Wastewater Collections Certificate B. Backflow Tester Certification within 18 months of hire. Must obtain a valid State of Florida Class B CDL drivers permit with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as a condition of continued employment. Technician "A" Requires 10,400 hours of experience wastewater and/or Lift Stations. Minimum five years or more of mechanical maintenance experience. Minimum five years or more experience in troubleshooting electrical controls type problems and working with electrical components i.e. starters, relays, phase monitors, etc. Requires Confined Space Entry Competency Training. Requires Wastewater Collections Certificate A. Requires Backflow Tester
