The Biology Program, housed in a new state-of-the-art facility, offers a rigorous sequence of courses for students interested in professional/technical degrees, and for science and non-science majors. Current faculty have education and experience in a variety of fields within biological science, from molecular biology to organismal biology to ecology. Faculty often work collaboratively to improve and adapt courses and share and implement new teaching techniques. The Earth and Environmental Sciences Program explores the planet's physical characteristics and systems, including the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere. Students, staff, and faculty investigate, both inside the classroom and through fieldwork, natural hazards, weather and climate, and living ecosystems. Our unique lab facilities, and the forests of adjacent Boeing Creek watershed, provide an ideal environment for hands‑on, active learning. Courses will include: First 2 years of college biology General Biology – for majors and non-majors Plant Biology Non-Majors Environmental Science There may be opportunities to teach in learning communities/interdisciplinary studies with faculty in other disciplines The Biology and Environmental Science Programs also maintain a goal of supporting learning for the STEM Division. We seek faculty who are adaptable in their teaching, committed to fostering a culture of belonging, and effective in working with diverse students, colleagues, and staff. The successful candidate will maintain a regular on campus presence to hold office hours, participate in assessment activities, engage in College governance, and other professional activities. Teaching assignments may include evening, online, or alternative instructional formats. Essential Functions and Responsibilities for Tenure-Track Faculty: Instruction Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved curriculum and course outlines. Develop and maintain engaging, inclusive, and accessible learning environments. Assess student learning outcomes and provide timely, constructive feedback. Curriculum & Academic Development Participate in curriculum review, development, and program assessment. Integrate pedagogical best practices. Student Support Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress and career pathways. Maintain regular office hours and respond promptly to student inquiries. Professional Engagement Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and college-wide initiatives. Complete 75 service hours for the College per quarter. Engage in professional development to maintain subject matter expertise. Community & Institutional Service Support outreach, recruitment, and community engagement activities. Contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative campus culture. Qualifications Required Education & Experience: Master's degree in Biology or closely related discipline from an accredited institution Teaching experience in a higher education setting (e.g. colleges, universities, etc.) Knowledge of: Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook and Teams Current applicable developments, research and trends in the field Learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technologies (e.g. ctcLink, Canvas, Starfish) Cellular Biology and Environmental Science Skill in: Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Biology and Environmental Science Fostering a climate of belonging through awareness and responsiveness Teaching and developing coursework online Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently Implementing inclusive pedagogy and evidence-based teaching methods Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds Effectively teaching complex concepts in general biology to pre-health students and pre-biology majors. Conditions of Employment Physical Work Environment: The College offers both in-person and online services, with the option of some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For in‑person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/lab space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and use of media equipment and other discipline-specific tools and technology. Handling of irritant/volatile chemicals in a fume hood may be required. Term Of Employment/Salary: This is a full-time, tenure‑track position, with a 172-day annual contract beginning September 17, 2026. Salary placement is determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with educational preparation. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
