Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, they all share an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and their owners. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical exams Create treatment plans Assist with diagnostic testing Provide dental services Observe or assist in surgical procedures Manage patients medically Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Qualifications Third or fourth year veterinary student in the clinical portion of education Interest in all aspects of veterinary care Externship Details Externships at Hillsboro Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Refer to the stipend program details for amounts and program information.
