Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Telemetry Observation Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Previous travel experience required Experience in Med-Surg, Telemetry, and Critical Drips Experience in Trach Care required Experience in Peritoneal Dialysis preferred Good cardiac background Description: Unit has 32 beds with a nurse/patient ratio of 1:6. Common diagnoses include respiratory conditions and various medical conditions in adult and geriatric populations. Experience with non-vented tracheostomies is necessary. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin, Cardizem (up to 15mg/hr only), Lasix, Dopamine (low dose renal perfusion only), and Amiodarone. Monitor Techs are available 24/7; Charge RNs read strips, but RNs must review strips each shift. Charge nurses have a modified patient assignment, typically managing 2 patients. Travelers may be asked to fill in the Charge Nurse role. There are nurse aids on this unit, with a ratio of 1 to 10 during the day and 1 to 15 at night. Available respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, and tracheostomy care. Shift hours are from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM or 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. Scheduling is handled by the floor manager, who considers requests. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, with a set rotation. Holiday requirements are rotational with core staff and can be based on previous year's schedule preference. Floating may be required to other units or departments if not needed on the primary unit. Dress code requires solid color scrubs without embroidery or patterns. Fleece zip-ups and solid undershirts in approved colors are permitted. Closed-toed shoes are required, and crocs are not allowed. An abbreviated skills checklist is due 90 days from the start date. The charting system utilized is EPIC.
