Global Supply Chain Group Leader

Location: On-site manufacturing plant
Schedule: Must be available for any shift, including weekends. Current launch operations include Saturday and Sunday work.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Global Supply Chain Group Leader to support a high-volume General Motors manufacturing operation during a production launch. This position oversees approximately 10–25 hourly team members, with responsibility for up to 30 employees based on operational needs.

The Group Leader manages personnel, materials, and equipment to meet safety, quality, cost, and production goals. The ideal candidate is a calm, accountable, and adaptable leader who communicates clearly, develops employees, and drives continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily floor operations, allocating personnel, materials, and equipment to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
• Train, coach, develop, and evaluate hourly team members using standardized work methods and job instruction training.
• Implement and sustain Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes, standardized work, layered audits, and Andon escalation procedures.
• Monitor Business Plan Deployment (BPD) and Level 5 metrics, identify performance gaps, and implement corrective actions.
• Promote safe work practices and maintain standards for ergonomics, health, safety, housekeeping, and workplace organization.
• Communicate quality expectations, respond to quality concerns, and maintain appropriate controls for nonconforming materials.
• Apply lean manufacturing and synchronous manufacturing principles to reduce variation, control costs, and improve productivity.
• Troubleshoot operational issues, coordinate maintenance support, and implement solutions that prevent recurring problems.
• Support launch and pilot activities, adapting labor and resources as priorities change.
• Build productive relationships with employees, union representatives, management, and cross-functional teams.
• Consistently administer applicable National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers (UAW).
• Maintain accurate operational documentation and communicate production status, issues, and priorities.

Qualifications

• Relevant manufacturing leadership, Group Leader, or supervisory experience.
• Associate degree in a technical field preferred; bachelor’s degree is a plus. Strong hands-on leadership and problem-solving experience may substitute for a degree.
• Ability to apply GMS principles, standardized work, performance metrics, layered audits, and escalation processes.
• Practical knowledge of manufacturing safety, ergonomics, product quality standards, quality-gate responses, workplace organization, and Management of Change.
• Ability to plan staffing, prioritize resources, manage production schedules, and coordinate equipment and maintenance needs.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to make timely, fact-based decisions and remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
• A collaborative leadership style with a commitment to employee development and continuous improvement.

Work Environment and Opportunity

This position is fully on-site and combines substantial time on the manufacturing floor with office responsibilities. Availability for any shift and weekend work is required. Work during plant shutdowns depends on activity in the assigned area.

The role offers hands-on leadership development during a production launch. Assignment extension and potential direct-hire consideration may be available based on business needs and performance.
